Weekend Roll Call 5-24-25

Post by kcdave »

Back here for a minute ....
Most of y'all trolls took the old WRC for granted, but then mufuckers start trippin'
because I have better shit to do than to waste 30 minutes early every Saturday
trying to come up with a discussion worthy topic or two, only for them to be
totally ignored. It's all good though. Maybe trolls simply don't have 30 minutes
to reply to my lame ass topics. Whatever the case, it's time for a change.
I tried to get CA and some other retard on .net to take the reigns years ago to
no avail. Some troll, or even a group of trolls can take over the WRC here. Or simply
let the whole thing can go away and it can just be another thing that we might
wax poetically about 10 years from now.   I'm good either way. If no one bothers to,
I may step in every now and again... but the weekly for me, is old, tired and just
not worth the bother.

Fairly shitty weather on tap for FOC on this holiday weekend.
No sun, no pool, some rain, and temps in the 60's for highs.
I'm getting ready to paint the house exterior and will be spending
most of the weekend on paint prep, so the cooler temps will be
fine. Taking most of tomorrow off though to go take a bourbon
distillery tour and head down to one of KC's better BBQ joints.

IN--- holiday weekend---back in the day I took my Grandmother to visit family graves and put flowers on them.
maybe tunes tonight---wait for white smoke from the desert.

Dave quit bitching and do your job, damnit. If you don't want to spend 30 minutes, then do it in 30 seconds. Click, submit, and then go work on grills or whatever your Saturday entails.

#1 ranked LSU baseball beat TA&M last night in the SEC tournament to make it to the semi-finals. That should be enough to guarantee a top 8 national seed and thereby host a super regional should LSU win the regional. Not sure how the team is ranked #1, but then is projected to be around #5 when it comes to the national seeding, but that's what is happening. Whatever, anywhere in the top 8 and I'm happy.

The Roux stable of horses has three races this weekend, Reputation today at Churchill Downs, and Miss American Pie and Intellectual tomorrow at Belmont. Looking forward to all three races, but in the ultra remote chance that one of you might bet, Intellectual is definitely not the one to expect to finish in the money. Reputation and MAP have much better chances. And now that I've said that, Intellectual might win. No, never mind, forget that, he ain't winning. Shit, I have to bet him just in case.

The legislative Session has been kicking my ass. We have been generally successful so far, but it definitely does not look like we'll go 18/18 on our most important bills. Realistically 16 or 17 will pass, and of the bills we were concerned about, they have either been amended or killed, so we're pretty good overall. Still, it is a bit frustrating to not get them all.

Two shaggy little dogs are getting groomed today.

And as I'm driving around, I noticed Chris' Specialty Meats, had to stop and get a boudin ball, damn these things are good.

If you're finding things boring, take the time to inject some life into your tasks. Refer to your trip to the BBQ joint as the multi-pronged 'Operation Scorpion'.

phase 1 - order BBQ
phase 2 - wait for BBQ
phase 3 - eat BBQ at de-briefing of Operation Scorpion

Then move on to Operation Descending Phoenix - painting the house. Refer to your house as Fort Awesome.

oh, your ebonics practice is paying off, I see.

kcdave wrote:because I have better shit to do

Right, because ebonics comes first...

1) 30 minutes is nowhere near eternity, which is still not enough time for a simple slouch like you to post a decent take. But trying is better than nothing.

2) If you think (a stretch there) you aren't getting the racks you deserve, mayhaps the TDS memes are teh suck, Chef's 3-peat fantasies are best left un-typed, and your music selections are meh at best.

3) Again, what about us? You state that there is a clamoring for your wack efforts, yet what you do is "totally ignored". Way to contradict yourself champ.

Way to do your best to pass the baton to capable hands. Yeah, the same brain that came up with that is also what's responsible for the paucity of quality content in your WRC lead-in posts. See a pattern here?

F*ck that. WRC is an institution and you're just the dork for the yob. You have been a mainstay in our thing here for decades in any number of organizational capacities. From volunteering your time as m0d of TNW Boxing to establishing kcclones.com for the KC tourstop 2002(which became Orc's Smackboard, a very good iteration of these spin-offs and a direct ancestor to this board). As long as there is a bit of life here, you are in charge of WRC. And may I recommend, for your own benefit that you re-frame the task, such that instead of being thankless toil, you employ your creative capacity for the sake of this being a way to keep your mental faculties sharp? As something of a personal writing lab ?

per google: "reading and writing later in life may help to maintain or bolster existing connections between brain cells and help to compensate for those lost"

You have a soapbox. Use it.

You know what's more scintillating than watching paint dry? Making your noodle work to come up with a good post at the alarming rate of a whole once per week.

kcdave did you ask Screwy about this decision to drop the weekly responsibility? Odds are he would not approve. And how the fuck will Kluba get his picks in 3BB?

If you must duck and roll, maybe President Trump could run it for a week or two as a try out.

I'm convinced Cajun food was invented by Jamie Oliver. It sounds good and it looks good, then right at the end they throw something revolting into it like gizzards to make it inedible.
Oliver does that, he'll make some 'authentic' Italian dish and you think 'my that looks delicious'. Then right before serving he'll dump a bottle of ketchup and a can of cream of mushroom soup in. He's a nearly man.

sin.

Yeah you probably don't want to pay too close attention to how they make boudin, definitely parts are used. All the leftover parts of the pig, after it has been butchered. Mostly pig and other animals too.

But damn is it good.

I did the usualm farmers market and Costco run this morning. Lower back pain is acting up so I can't get much else done. I have coach lamps to mount outside the front door and garage doors, pull out shelves to mount under four bathroom sinks, and the never ending parade of yard work, but none of that's getting done today. I have a lot of stenosis and some arthritis in my lumbar spine that actus up occasionally. I was told about 12 years ago that I have "severe degenerative disc disease," which sounded like a death sentence, but I'm still around.

Meanwhile, most of the late winter and early spring blooms have run their course. Manzanitas, ceanothus, Western redbud, flannelbush, wildflowers blooming in full sun areas.

But the late spring / early summer group is taking over.

Matilija poppies, bush mallow, Cleveland sage "Winnifred Gilman," "Desert Museum" palo verde

same stuff, from below

Clarkia

Bush anenome (carpenteria californica). I planted this at least 15, maybe 20 years ago, along with two others. It never thrived, never had more than two or three flowers, and its two companions died within a few years. This has been completely neglected for at least a decade and suddenly it decided to "spring" to life. Go figure.

My bonus son turned 16 Monday and is looking for his first job this weekend. My bonus daughter turned 14 and had 6 girls spend the night last night, so that gave me the green light to take the 2 year old out of town to my parents’ land and build her a swing set and give her swim lessons. Been a good weekend so far.

Happy and I'm smiling
Walk a mile to drink your water
You know I'd love to love you
And above you there's no other

We'll go walking out
While others shout of war's disaster
Oh, we won't give in
Let's go living in the past

Once I used to join in
Every boy and girl was my friend
Now there's revolution, but they don't know
What they're fighting

Let us close our eyes
Outside their lives go on much faster
Oh, we won't give in
We'll keep living in the past

living in the past... hmm. I guess that's what's going on, but nah, referencing past for the sake of being prologue is more the case, for me anyway. Just stay tuned.

RONG! What was true in '07 remains the same. Also the yard pics are consistently a prime feature of the WRC, and unless someone posts proof otherwise, you might just have botanical bode.
