Had my first FF draft today...

Post by KUTTER »

Here's what I got.

QB Delhomme
QB Favre

RB Holmes
RB Anderson,M
RB Green,A
RB Jordan,L
RB Johnson,L
RB Taylor,C

WR Harrison
WR Owens
WR Muhammad
WR Jenkins,M

TE Clark,D

K Akers

DEF BAL
DEF DEN

Its an 8-team league, serpentine draft, I had the fifth pick. The first four picks went Tomlinson, Alexander, Manning, McGahee. I know, I couldn't believe McGahee went there either. I almost shouted out "CULPEPPER", but after I thought about it, I decided to stay the course with piling up RBs and WRs. I passed on Owens with the 12th pick and took Harrison. I never thought that Owens would drop to 21st, but there he was. I live near Baltimore and the league is full of T.O. haters.

I spent the next three picks loading up on RBs. Anderson (28th), Green (37th), and Jordan (44th). I avoided a TE run in the 4th and 5th rounds, and snagged Clark in 7th (53rd). Then I came back with Johnson (60th) to handcuff to Holmes. Every RB I had rated above Johnson had just been picked, so I had to move on him there.

Then I decided to start the runs on Ks and DEFs. I took BAL with the 69th in the 9th round, then took Akers with the 76th in the 10th. Both picks ignited runs at both positions, and that's when I snagged Delhomme (85th) and Favre (92nd). I knew if I waited long enough I could load up on RBs and still get a 30-TD QB.

The last 4 rounds were ugly. I ended up looking for bench WRs, and all I could manage were Muhammad (101st) and Jenkins (108th). BAL has a bye in week 3, so I took another defense with DEN (117th). My last pick was going to be Tatum Bell, the handcuff for Anderson. But the team picking next already drafted Jamal Lewis and had failed to handcuff him with Chester Taylor. This is the same team that took McGahee with the 4th overall pick. I figure I can trade with this guy and maybe steal a good player if Jamal goes down. Hence, my final pick of Taylor (124th).

The scoring system is 6 points for all TDs, 1 point per 20 yards passing, 1 point per 10 yards rushing or receiving, 2 points for takeaways, 1 point for sacks, 2 points for safeties.

I know the 8-team league seems like its talent-heavy, but I like it. Let's hear what you think of my squad....

Looks like a 4 team league to me.

Holmes and Green

Harrison and Owens

Thanks, but I prefer a bit more competition in my league.

What do you get if you win Kutter, besides a self high five?

Look at the pick of McGahee at #4 with the following players still available:

Holmes
Culpepper
McNabb
Harrison
Moss
Owens
Holt
James
McAllister
Davis,D

Most teams I talked to had McGahee around #10 at RB.

I'm certainly down with the total points aspect of your league...can I get in next year? :)

Serpentine drafts suck, unless you're PISC. Try an auction draft just once, and you'll never go back.

I've won that league two years running, so NO! :D

I've thought about going to an auction in at least one of my leagues. I still enjoy the draft style, though.
