Love of Life
Had Summer come too soon, or was this Spring
Deceived by cloudless skies? There was a ring
Of early flowers still remaining, but
The grass was full and tall—had not been cut
In months I noticed as I lay my bike
Out of the way. Michelle asked if I’d like
To share a funny little cigarette.
“No, no”—she seemed pleased—“I would never let
Something like that get in the way of you,
I want only you in my senses, through
And through, filling me up—I want to grow
And fill the sky that I might hold you. “Oh,”
She laughed, a nodding smile—looked around,
And spread a thin green blanket on the ground—
Her graceful curves—her looks to stop a ship

I stopped—her eyes said Why Have I Been Hurled
From Heaven? Please Continue! And I took
Her lovely flushed face in my hands—her look
Of dawning realization grew
As my bright swaying mast, wet with her dew,
Approached her sparkling eyes and mouth. She placed
Her fingers lovingly. A circling taste—
Engulfing everything and more with tongue
And lips all swirling. I sought out her young
Fresh garden with my own crazed tongue and we
Became one throbbing pulse—no He, no She,
Just one sweet climbing vine—and climbing fast!
I gently pulled my bursting life out past
Her moving lips and soft fingers and slid
Back down to bask within her thighs—amid
Beside, within, upon and all around
Her lively warm pudenda—no more sound
Or sight, just her aroma and the beat
Of her quick heart pulsing hard all the heat
Of her young blood, her whole life now a need
Drawing into her precious hooded bead
To become one pure reinvention of
Her spirit as an expression of love
Through body and as body, blood as mind
And bliss together rising—I would find

Life’s music was within the thrusts, the call
Of every drummer was alive in each
Stroke of our rhythm—Life seeking to reach
The sun, to touch and take its blessing flame—
That first divides and then unites to claim—
And now the sun was streaming through the night,
Arising in her writhing whimper—right
Like that—the stars are violent inside—
Creating beauty from afar—she cried
Out ”Oh!” and pulled me down upon her breast
As I exploded nova, sunflame, crest
And freefall spiral down and down...again
Among the world, the women and the men.
We breathed together, listening with new
Ears to the orchestra of night which grew
Into a weaving fugue of wind and calls
Of birds and insects, shades of light, and falls
Of silent streaking stars that flare and die.
I leaned and kissed the lid of her closed eye.
She stood stretching—the dark concealed us now—
And it seemed natural to ask her how
The stars and moon felt on her body here
At night among the chirruping bushes near
The tennis courts—in fact at the center
Of all the universe. She laughed and her
Voice seemed to musically caress each word
She spoke—“I only wish that you had heard
And seen and felt what I—where I-- went when
You took me, sent me..held me there and then
Scattered me all around those stars. Did you
Go to? I’ll bet you did,” she laughed anew.
That Summer should arrive with our living
For its glorious crown, anointing king
And queen to celebrate the lighted land—
Just there her peeling voice and waving hand.
And her laughter remains, within, above,
For all who’d hear, for all who’d live and love.
