Barren Down the Hatches, Fukk-O's

Post by Shlomart Ben Yisrael »

It's going to be a bumpy ride next week. The IG report is due out the 9th and he will be testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the 11th. The Deep State will need a distraction stat.

I'm guessing another school shooting. Another pencil-necked pajama boy "on the spectrum." One or both parents will be a teacher or other government bureaucrat. Red flags will have been raised, but ignored. If necessary, a large "chemical weapons attack" against our Kurdish allies will be on standby. Maybe even a no shit for real chemical attack this time depending on the media volume requirement.

This is popeturd, btw....

But remember rabbi Shmuley,
The IG report is just the appetizer, or
the hors di' oeuvres.
The Gefilte fish and chopped liver if you will.

The Bull Durham HAMMER will be the meat and potatoes.

Followed by indictments for dessert.

Don't go spoiling your appetite my yiddish friend. Stay hungry.

The scene where danny is riding his big wheel thru the hotel's hallways on carpet and then on hardwood floors, is claustrophobic and very ominous. Expert foreshadowing of the evil lurking round the next turn.

The sight of the dead twin girls,
Is still to this day, the most frightening scene in the history of cinema.

I'm a student of cinema.

More like fully erect.
Until she turned 105 and decrepit.
Then my erection vanished.

You must realize that the majority of film critics are left wing, jewish, gay and socialist.
And "pretentious" times a thousand.
I can give you countless examples of this.

Kubrick took left wing Stephen king's story and made it even greater.
As with most great art, the film is way more revered now, than it was back then.
Same with "Apocalypse now".

Point being? I'd love to discuss "in depth" the great films with you over tea and crumpets.

It would bore most in here though maybe a weekend in Nantucket some time in the near future.

Technically, a superior movie. Jack Nicholson was spot on. That said, Shelly Duvall was awful and Stephen King hates the film to this day for a very good reason. So no, not his best film, not by a long shot.

Why is Shelly the worst part? Jack Nicholson played himself.

Funny how Jack was there when Roman raped that little girl....

Anyway, Shelly Duvall plays a mouse who can't protect herself or her son from her husband's physical, mental and sexual abuses. She doesn't escape through waifu or deus ex machina. She escapes through the inner strength she develops in the same hotel which amplifies her husband's own faults. It's deep. They both made choices about the paths their lives could take. Same souls, different patterns -- like the rugs. Which is truth?

Both are. Which do you choose to see/walk on?

Word I heard is that King hated Kubrick for taking a very personal horror story and making the leads damaged -- and closer to Steven and Tabitha -- instead of conventionally attractive (sympathetic). Kubrick followed the spirit of the novel, not the letter. The spirit was damaged; Kubrick wasn't kind.

Why is it number one over Strangelove, Lolita, Lyndon or even EWS?

Technical innovation? Plot? Influence?

How does it stack up against Birth of a Nation?

I hope you realize that was a joke base on Bowie's song. Yes, 2001 is his best.

Clockwork has flaws, but Malcolm MdDowell was brilliant. I've always preferred it over Paths. But only marginally.

Lyndon was boring as hell. Lolita is just okay. Strangelove is genius and Peter Sellers is at his best.

2001 set technical standards that are still in play to this day. Visually, it is his best work. The enigmatic tone of the film sets it apart as well.

As to your comments about The Shining. Duvall is a terrible actress. Whiny and mousy and she wasn't at all the character King wrote. Nicholson always plays versions of himself, but when I read the book when if first came out, I actually saw him in that part. It was perfect casting. King did not hate it for the reason you stated, that's preposterous. Though it did hold to the "spirit" of the novel, Kubrik took too many liberties with the story and mucked up some of what King was writing about. You put far too much emphasis on Duvall. She butchered that role the way Jack did with the door.

The Shining is a story about Stephen, Tabitha, their daughter, Stephen's substance abuse, and the effect of that substance abuse on his family.

Kubrick went to the places Stephen couldn't face.

Kubrick directed Shelly in a very specific way. It worked. Kubrick doesn't make mistakes.

It is not preposterous for King to hate what Kubrick did, because of how close Stephen was to that story, and the meta statements Kubrick made.

Only thing I didn't like what Scatman dying, but I understood the dual purpose of it.

You're underrating King. Clearly you haven't read any of his recent work. He's getting better with each novel.

Only thing I didn't like what Scatman dying, but I understood the dual purpose of it.
Speaking to The Paris Review back in 2006, he said the film was “Too cold” and that there was “No sense of emotional investment in the family whatsoever.” Further elaborating, King said that Shelley Duvall as Wendy was “basically a scream machine.”

“There’s no sense of her involvement in the family dynamic at all,” he argued, “And Kubrick didn’t seem to have any idea that Jack Nicholson was playing the same motorcycle psycho that he played in all those biker films he did.... The guy is crazy. So where is the tragedy if the guy shows up for his job interview and he’s already bonkers? No, I hated what Kubrick did with that.”

In addition, King said, "The character of Jack Torrance has no arc in that movie. Absolutely no arc at all. When we first see Jack Nicholson, he’s in the office of Mr. Ullman, the manager of the hotel, and you know, then, he’s crazy as a shit house rat. All he does is get crazier. In the book, he’s a guy who’s struggling with his sanity and finally loses it. To me, that’s a tragedy. In the movie, there’s no tragedy because there’s no real change."

Unable to stem the flow of disdain, King continued: “My screenplay for The Shining became the basis for the television miniseries later on. But I doubt Kubrick ever read it before making his film. He knew what he wanted to do with the story, and he hired the novelist Diane Johnson to write a draft of the screenplay based on what he wanted to emphasize. Then he redid it himself. I was really disappointed.”

That is why he hated Kubrick's version. Kubrick twisted the story to his vision. He may not make mistakes, but he missed the mark here.

Phibes, I respect your opinion, but you sound like someone who has never actually read his work. He has written some pretty weak books, but his best novels are on par with anyone else. Few writers create realistic dialogue and conversation better than he does.

Kubrick's visionary film is that rare instance where the movie outshines the book. No pun intended.

Again.

Saying Stephen king hated Kubrick vision of his book,
Doesn't matter one fuckin bit,
Because Stephen king is a muppet faced left wing socialist.

It's like art Garfunkel saying that
His version of "bridge over troubled water" was better than elvis's interpretation.
Bullshit.

Elvis's soul depth and diversity destroyed art's thin faggoty voice.

The king took that song light years beyond art's limited talent and thin tinny voice could ever have dreamed of.

Same thing with Kubrick.
His vision was light years better than king's.

IB is 100% correct.
Kubrick took that vision to places that Stephen king could NEVER EVER have imagined.

Every so often, the film is indeed better than the book.
Not often, but every so often.

The godfather I and II are such examples.

Planet of the apes.

In the end.. so what? It's Stephen King, not HG Wells.
You're underrating King. Clearly you haven't read any of his recent work. He's getting better with each novel.

Just read "The Institute" as an example.
As a thinking individual, he's getting more and more psychotic like Hillary Clinton is getting more and more delusional.

King is a leftist. His remarks about G W. Bush are psychotic to say the least.
Like most leftists, he is deeply unhinged and flat out nuts

His politics has nothing to do with his ability as a writer, nor the quality of his work.

You're hanging onto a feeble, shredding thread tard-o. Eject for your own good, you have nothing to offer.

Every so often, the film is indeed better than the book.
Not often, but every so often.
That's a list by itself.

As for King's assessment of Jack and Shelly's performances, he is bitter about Jack being the villain and doesn't recognize Shelly's realistic arc from abused wife to heroine. Three men had the Shine in the movie, Shelly had no supernatural gifts but fought and won without losing her sanity. Guess the dump stat.

Innocent Bystander wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2019 6:05 pmThe Shining is a story about Stephen, Tabitha, their daughter, Stephen's substance abuse, and the effect of that substance abuse on his family.

Stephen king's synopsis is DEAD WRONG!!!
KING is the idiot here. His take on the movie is laughably ignorant.
Looking back 40 years later, king was 100% off the mark. The film went way over his low IQ.

In the history of cinema, the book is indeed superior to the movie, more often than not.
But on several occasions, the film is superior to the book,
AND this is such an occasion.

Others?
The wizard of oz.
Godfather
Godfather II
Star wars
etc......

Point being?
I've maintained that Stephen king is a great storyteller, BUT, on politics, he's a fuckin idiot and a low IQ moronic imbecile.

IB.
Thank you for your insights here.
Jay seems to be a left wing scumbag like stephen king.

Thru the years, Stephen king has made as many stupid remarks as joe Biden has.

BTW,
get a load of Biden coming unhinged in an Iowa presser today.
Biden has been an angry low IQ pencil neck his entire life.
Now Alzheimer's is added to this sorry son of a bitch's baffoon clown life.

What's your point IB? What does Goodkind have to do with King?

Yes, the accident did change him. If anything, he became a BETTER writer. I've offered you his exact quotes for his dislike of the Kubrick film. You've backed up your opinion...with your opinion. Not facts. You've got nothing here, except ignorance. Not as bad as Stan, but still...

Stan, you douche nozzle, as I've stated over and over, I am not a leftist. Not even close. Do your homework. If King has made stupid remarks, go ahead and link those up. Prove yourself.
