Yep, my man James did pimp Russell hard in here when Oakland drafted him.

Ouch.

For me it was a wait-and-see attitude.
He looked impressive at times and he was big, strong and has a BIG arm.
But he was young and raw.

He never has, or never has been able to, grasp what it is to be an NFL QB.

I remember watching him piss away the last 1:30-or-so of a game v. Miami in the middle of '08, taking a bad sack, getting up slowly, and then just sort of ... standing there ... as the clock ticked precious seconds away.
He didn't take command.
He couldn't take command.
He just COMPLETELY fucked that thing away.

I knew this was trouble.

And then he showed up for post-game all blinged-out, and wearing a mink and shades - looking like a grade-A m0ron, and mumbling shit like, "I think I did okay."

I knew this was BIG trouble.

Al fucked up majorly by handing this dipshit the keys to the car without having him EARN them.

It'll be a happy day when the giant turd is flushed for good.

Leaf WAS the bigger bust, that is correct.

You can look up the stats yourself and see that Russell did better - and also won more.

Not only that, Russell is not DONE yet.
Don't expect much out of him, but it IS possible that he could still do something.

#1 overall 1995, Ki-Jana Carter - just as awful as J. Russell.

The only, and I mean only thing that keeps JaMantits in the argument at all is the fact he was the #1 overall pick. But that still carries little weight since it was Al Davis who picked him, universally regarded as a complete dumbfuck when it comes to talent evaluation/player drafting, and, well, football in general.

Leaf was supposed to be NFL ready. He had the tools and make-up of your prototypical dropback qb. The only debate surrounding Leaf at the time was whether he should go #1 or not. But there was little debate as to his ability to play the position at the NFL level. Whereas plenty of people were not sold at all on JaMeatloaf.

So what? There's little difference between the 1st and 2nd picks in terms of expectation level. Even then, as the 2nd pick, Leaf still had higher expectations than JaMarshmallow did as #1...so the point is moot. The money factor is a better argument, but it's not convincing enough in and of itself.

Marcus Spears has been a serviceable defensive end in a 3-4 scheme for the Boys. Having said that, he will probably be released or traded this offseason.
