Besides cutting off your foot...

Post by indyfrisco »

WTF do you do for turf toe?

Fuck, I'm taking advil. Got ice on it just so I can't feel it. I have to pop my toe every 10 minutes to alleviate the pressure. Every time it seems to get a little better, a round of golf or softball game will set it back 3-4 weeks.

Fuck turf toe.

Lopping off the toe seemed good enough for Luther.

I've been to family physician so I could pay him $80 to refer me to my sports doc who did my knee and finger surgeries. Fucking insurance won't allow me to go directly to the specialist.

Anyhow, sports doc appointment is a couple weeks out. He's the best in town but fuck if you don't have to wait forever for appointments. Family doc said he figgers it to be turf toe. I've had this nagging for about a year and am finally fed up with it. It'll go away for a few weeks and I think I'm ok. Soon as I start up again, let's just say I look like a retarded gimp when I attempt to walk.

Seen these online and figgered it may help some with the walking.

Presumably, IndySauce, you're a righty, and it's the right big toe that's aching. Just switch over to lefty. Yeah, it'll be a bitch getting new clubs and Barry Bonds batting armor for those fierce softball lobs but you'll be better for it in the end. You'll achieve balance in your life. Yin and yang. Indy,

Severely tore my right hamstring this year when I stepped on a ball playing softball. Worst fucking pain I think I ever felt. Couldn't walk for a couple days and crutches do nothing but stress the injured hammy as your leg dangles. I was bruised from my glute to my knee. Sucked!

Anyhow, I made the decision to STOP playing ball for the last half of the season no matter how good it felt 4 weeks later. I narrowly avoided surgery thanks to physical therapy and not completely tearing it in half and I wasn't about to let the itch to play again lead me to blow it good. I'm taking flag football off this fall, too.

I suggest you let it heal or get some support/orthotic for it. Good luck!

H4E,

I know what yer sayin, but yer sayin it to a guy who tries to play through pain. I'm no mega-athlete. I'm the typical weekend warrior. Therefore, if I feel I can play thru the pain, I play thru the pain. So I guess the premise of this thread was not what to do with turf toe but rather just bitching that I have it. I had it last year and winter was my rehab.

I bought new golf spikes a couple months ago. Does not seem to flare up as much on the links. Got new baseball spikes today so we'll see how they work. I agree staying off it is the best course of action, but I'm the best 3B in the league and tourney is a couple weeks away. They'll need me. As for golf, I'm in th finals in 2 match play tourneys. Gotta stick those out too.

Good enough, Indy. I'm with you on toughing it out if you have some important dates coming up. Many racks for sacking up for the team.

A good podiatrist will get you fixed up for next year and I suggest dropping the cash on any device he recommends. My insurance company would rather cover the thousands to fix my tailor's bunion via surgery than cover the $450 for the orthotic! Needless to say...I spent the cash and avoided the surgery.

I opted for surgery this past March on the bunion from the Devil himself. Mt outta pocket was about $800.00.
Still a little sore, but I can actually walk without a limp and my back and hips are damn glad I got cut. They were headed for trouble. Matter of fact I had to get a cortizone injection in a hip due to the limping.

If your problem is a bunion Indy, I'd suggest an early winter surgery. You'll be glad next spring.
Everything else will just prolong the inevitable. And your too young not to get it done.
Even at my age I decided I didn't want my last 20 years to be that painful. The $800.00 bucks wasn't gonna line my coffin anyway.

Will continue the sports until the winter. I'm pretty sure what I have is a bunion. In researching symptoms, it is identical to what I have been reading. I will most likely opt for surgery this winter during the offseason. Appointment is Sept 10.

But by then Indy's toe will be obsolete. Once he lops it off he can go prosthetic. I think Dan J. might have a used one with low miles and extended battery life.

Most likely it is some stray fungal infection you picked up wallering around in that ditch rebuild of yours. Probably eating your insides up as you read this, so expect your insides to start coming out with every shit you take.

Make sure your life insurance is paid up so your OL and brats are taken care of.
