Northern Michigan PET
Spent some time in the northern portion of the lower peninsula this weekend. After work, I drove from Indian River to Cross Village which is a small town near the Grand Traverse Bay on elevation overlooking Lake Michigan to the west. From there, I decided to drive south down Highway 119 to Harbor Springs, a 30 mile stretch called the Tunnel of Trees.
Forgot to bring the digital camera so had to settle for crappy cell phone pics. Just wish I could have went three weeks earlier when the fall colors were still in bloom, but it was still cool.
You've heard the small town joke, blink and you'll miss it. That is literally the case with the town of Good Hart, which consists of two buildings, a photography studio and a general store.
Couldn't get in range for Zyclone's summer home, so had to settle for his port a jon.
Didn't really expect to find a cemetery, but then again people die everywhere.
The drive ends here overlooking the town of Harbor Springs. The weather was more bi-polar than an unmedicated Toddowen that day.
Spent most of the following day in Petoskey which has some pretty decent nightlife considering the remoteness of the area. A couple breweries like Petoskey Brewing.
And the other Brewery was called Beards.

MI woods look an awful lot like CT woods. Nice PET.

Not as nice as Caly, but scenic.

Great stuff, Mgo!
Beautiful.
Makes me miss my true home.
It's a crisp, cracklin' autumn day...[/KeithJackson]

Nice PET. Grand Traverse Bay is very scenic. Other than that, the northern Lower Peninsula is a vast wasteland.
Re: Northern Michigan PET
Nice. Deciduous trees are cool in fall when the colors come out. That's about the only thing I miss down here.

trev, I couldn't help but imagine you were by my side as we rode slowly through the bends and curls of this beautiful Autumn passageway. At points, we would get out and enjoy views of the Grand Traverse Bay while breathing in the cool and crisp air. Then we found a quaint little Bed & Breakfast on a hill where we decided to retire for the evening...trev wrote:Not as nice as Caly, but scenic.

Actually, a lot of the leaves are already dead up there. Like I said, wish I coulda gone a few weeks earlier, would've been much more scenic. It's basically early stage winter up there at this point. There was about an inch of snow on the ground early in the A.M. but it melted by the afternoon.Papa Willie wrote:Surprised y'all still have that many leaves up there...
Re: Northern Michigan PET
Well done.
It's nice to see some fall colors, which we don't get too much of around here. I did see some in Napa, where the grape vines are all starting to turn gold and drop their leaves, and in Mendocino, where there are some deciduous trees mixed in with the redwoods and other evergreens.

Bartender looks like a descendant of Rasputin.
My neighbor has gone over to the Philipines to try and buy an arm ornament like Rasputins.
Nice PET, pretty area. I bet the 9.1abv Hoppsessed has some flavor.

"Tunnel of Trees"?
Serious question: Is that considered a dense growth of trees around there?

I don't know, I'm not an arborologist.
In the summer and early fall when the leaves aren't dead it's going to look a lot more dense and lush.
Don't be a douche. This isn't a competition.

Nice work. Heading up to Harbor Springs myself next weekend. We went last year in early October and it was absolutely the perfect time to go.

Nice. Between Petoskey/Harbor Springs, there's a good balance of scenery & nightlife to keep you entertained for a weekend. If there were a couple more trees per square foot you'd REALLY have a blast.
