A message from Lab Rat

Post by BSmack »

Well, I tried to get our former resident biologist back on the board. But I don't think It's going to happen. With his permission, here's his final take on the subject.
Mike the Lab Rat wrote:Was just reading some of the threads over there. What a waste of bandwidth. Wags has gotten stupider. Poptart has become even more Bible-steeped, Moving Sale is even more pointless. Homophobia, racism, and people screeching at each other without the pretense of actually considering the others' views. Nope. Never going back there. Ever.
Kinda hard to argue with his logic. There is a definite tolerance for racists, bigots and homophobes on this board. And honestly, then next time somebody seriously tries to see things from the other poster's point of view will be the first. And I don't think that's ever going to change. So everybody say goodbye to Mike the Lab Rat.

I think a lot of people tend to confuse fear with loathing when they blithely toss around the term 'homophobe'. Despite the fact that they're often labeled as such, I don't suspect that too many people truly have an irrational fear of gays or their lifestyle.

Otherwise, Lab Rat was always one of my favorites. In our post-Euro-Moorese-Biggie world, Lab Rat and 88 pretty much took over as being my favorites.

My two cents.

But MtLR prefers pretense. That's what you said he said, therefore it must be true. Personally, I'd rather know if someone was an ass than have them pretend to be otherwise. But we disagree on lots of things, so this is no surprise.

Never better ppanther. The wife is 22 weeks with what appear to be twin human beings having the primary sexual characteristics of females living off nutrients in her womb. We weren't sure if they were human at first but all indications and scientific data reveal that based on appearance they are - in fact - human. We've chosen to keep them.

Nice proxy post from lab rat I suppose but you tell him (if he can't read or speak for himself) that it's not possible for Wags to become stupider.

But thanks for the shout-out anyway and may his glass of Johnny Walker Red never run dry.

HOWEVER...

I fail to see the pretense in the following:

C'mon Mike. I empathize with your disgust, but this Board DOES, on occasion, produce a salient thread worthy of debate. That you choose not to participate... Well, we are much poorer for it.

Here's my vote that you might reconsider. Just my nickle's worth...

There is a definite tolerance for just about anyone on this board, now that you mention it. I always find it odd when I am called to remind folks that this is not a fucking jr. high debate club. I think you're off base there, BeShellacked. Poptart has definitely taken pains to engage with other posters...most recently and notably in 88's Mass thread, and semi-heroically in the Religion forum.

There's no questioning the fact that Mike the Lab Rat was run.

But I give him limited props for just ... leaving.

No tear-soaked "THIS IS MY FINAL POST. DELETE MY ACCOUNT, YOU ASSES. I HATE ALL OF YOU." rhetoric that goes on for ... 8 or 9 more posts.

He just left.

I'd hardly say that Mike is "shivering and piss stained in a corner". He, myself and about 8 other folks shred each other on a daily basis on Facebook. The difference is that we all know each other in real life and therefore are forced to be more honest, both personally and intellectually.

And I'd also recommend that you stay away from analogies referencing body waste. Just sayin.
I think you're off base there, BeShellacked. Poptart has definitely taken pains to engage with other posters...most recently and notably in 88's Mass thread, and semi-heroically in the Religion forum.
Poptart engages, but he does not engage honestly. You ask him for non biblical proofs and he's replying with fucking reams of scripture. That's not engaging, that's restating your thesis over and over and over until people tire of replying. Hell, even TVO "engages" with other posters. The problem is when he does you wish he hadn't.

He didn't "trot me out". I was asked by Goober and a few others to see if he would comment on your latest idiocy in 88's mass thread. When I asked him, he declined. A week later he sent me another note which you see at the top of this thread. I then asked him if I could quote his note. He said in effect, "knock yourself out." That's it.

Really?

Might that be because, as a devout Catholic AND a Biologist, he pretzeled your literal biblical interpretation of the age of the Earth (10,000 years, as I recall) into a Borromean ring?

Mediocre, eh? WTF does that make you?

I've said repeatedly that I'm not going to prove God to you.

And in fact, you can ask me ANY question relating to the Bible and/or faith and I will give you my answer - without posting any Scripture.

I've done that over and over.

It's just the Scripture postings that stick in your mind.

Frankly, if they're posted, you should read and regard them.

Oh well.

Oh well x 2.

Mike was always a good guy.

Yes, Truman, he just couldn't hang.

How devout is/was he?

He's now an atheist, I hear.

Hmmmmm ......

Btw, I don't know the age of the earth, and the Bible does not say how old it is.

I once took the 6,000 yr old position.
But I think the *GAP* theory (time of unknown amount between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2) has legs.

At any rate, it doesn't matter.

Oh, so what you're saying now is that you've changed your mind? Sorta like what Mike did with his Catholicism... allegedly? The current status of Mike's faith has zero to do with his previous dispellment of your assertion that the Earth is 6,000 years old. Truman, I actually regret that I ever got into debates about creation and evolution on the boards.
While it can be interesting to discusss, it's off track and it's not important to the message of Christ.

But for your information, I do think life on earth is around 6,000 yrs old.
The Bible gives us that timeline.

It doesn't tell us about the age of the earth, though.

Could be much much older than that. - Genesis 1:1 - 1:2 gap - possible.
