Fearless Forcasts 2009 - Divisions and Championships

Post by KC Scott »

AFC

East
New England Patriots - Brady is back and they have a chip on their shoulder
Miami Dolphins - Surprise playoff team / Good defense
Buffalo Bills - Could contend for a playoff spot - TO seems to have good first seasons in new home(s)
New York Jets - Sanchez isn't Matt Ryan - Don't see enough offensive weapons

North
Pittsburgh Steelers - Super Bowl hangover? maybe - but now a bigger gap between them and B'more
Baltimore Ravens - Lost Ryan and a few playmakers off the Defense - Still no offensive starpower
Cincinnati Bengals - maybe 5 wins if Palmer is healthy
Cleveland Browns -train wreck and Magini is driving

South
Tennessee Titans - Losing Haynesworth may be bigger than planned
Houston Texans - Like this team a lot - all the weapons in place
Indianapolis Colts - Manning is only reason they even compete for a wild card spot
Jacksonville Jaguars - I see Del Rio getting fired by Mid-season

West
San Diego Chargers - Win the worst division in NFL by default
Oakland Raiders - Maybe 5 wins
Kansas City Chiefs Maybe 4 wins if Cassel isn't a bust
Denver Broncos - Train Wreck - may have worse defense than last year

NFC

East
Philadelphia Eagles - Good team with no glaring weakness outside of WR
New York Giants - Strong Defense & Power running game = 10+ wins and WC
Dallas Cowboys - Nice stadium, but time to rebuild
Washington Redskins - Old RB, Signing Old DT and No QB = Nothing for the Dan again

North
Chicago Bears - Cutler will do better than expected - Defense is suspect but getting Harris back
Minnesota Vikings- Farve too much drama
Green Bay Packers - Close to competing for a WC
Detroit Lions - could triple last year's win total

South
Atlanta Falcons - Gonzo is a great addition here
New Orleans Saints - Can score but can't defend
Carolina Panthers = If Defense doesn't improve Fox is gone
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - New coach, QB train wreck = 6 mins max

West
Seattle Seahawks - Best Defesne in the division / can't see much on the ground from them though
San Francisco 49ers - I like Singletary - expect them to push Seattle hard
Arizona Cardinals - Overachieved and didn't add enough pieces in offseason
St. Louis Rams - Bad

Wildcards -

AFC: Miami & Houston
NFC: Giants and Vikings

Conference Champs

AFC: Pats
NFC: Eagles

Super Bowl

WR is the least of their worries.. in fact it's neither a weakness or a strength and they have depth in that position.

As for glaring weaknesses:
They have no MLB since Bradley is out for the year.
Their offfensive line is having injury problems.. Shaun Andrews is complaining of a bad back and he's got a few screws loose in his head. His brother is coming off major knee surgery and is penciled in as a tackle. Todd Hermimanns is missing the rest of the pre-season with injuries too..
Westbrook is being eased back and won't last the season.

I think the Giants could win this division because of their defense.

AFC

East
New England Patriots - Tom Brady- enough said.

New York Jets - Sanchez is the Real Deal, but he needs WRs BADLY
Buffalo Bills - won't finish above .500 because of a BAD O-line

North
Pittsburgh Steelers - Defending Champs will figure into things
Baltimore Ravens - Needs WRs in a bad way
Cincinnati Bengals - If things fall their way the Ravens better look out
Cleveland Browns - WORST team in the league. PERIOD!

South
Houston Texans - THIS is the year these guys bust out
Indianapolis Colts - Peyton can still will this squad to 10 wins
Tennessee Titans - No downfield weapons = outside looking in
Jacksonville Jaguars - Time to blow it up and start over

West
San Diego Chargers - Win the worst division AGAIN despite Norvelous
Kansas City Chiefs- Haley grinds this team to 2nd place
Oakland Raiders - Same old sorry-ass Raydahs
Denver Broncos - SECOND worst team in the NFL

NFC

East
New York Giants - Best D in the NFC, stout ground attack = best team in NFC
Philadelphia Eagles - bad O-line will keep them from division title
Dallas Cowboys - Nice stadium, soft team. Outside looking in, AGAIN
Washington Redskins - Zorn might wanna brush up on his resume'

Minnesota Vikings- Favre makes them instant World Champion contenders
Chicago Bears - Cutler, improved D = wildcard
Green Bay Packers - Close to competing for a WC, but defense is highly suspect
Detroit Lions - MIGHT be coached up to relative respectability

AFC

East
New England Patriots - If they go 14-2 this season, then the rest of the AFC East ay have no shot at a playoff bid
Buffalo Bills - Possible winning season but their schedule is brutal just like the rest of the AFC East
Miami Dolphins - The wildcat and the Dolphins are both overrated. 8-8
New York Jets - The defense could be salty but the offense lacks the firepower to push them into contending

North
Pittsburgh Steelers - The offensive line was a big surprise last season. They are New England's #1 competitor
Baltimore Ravens - No receivers and the defense loses a little bit of experience. They will fight for the WC though
Cincinnati Bengals - They could score a lot of points if Palmer is firing on all cylinders.
Cleveland Browns - As long as Braylon Edwards is your #1 receiver, a lot of potential wins will slip through the cracks

South
Tennessee Titans - Ball control will allow this team to repeat as division champs
Houston Texans - The offense will finally match the scoring with the yards which = wins
Indianapolis Colts - There is no reason to think we could have three 10-6 teams out of this division
Jacksonville Jaguars - That offensive line is terrible and the defense is overrated.

West
San Diego Chargers - They can go 7-9 and still win the division by two games.
Kansas City Chiefs - They will be bad, but will start to put it together late in the season
Oakland Raiders - still no recievers and the fat ass QB hasn't shown me anything yet.
Denver Broncos - 1-15 is a possibility

NFC

East
Philadelphia Eagles - The front seven has questions, but Reid could have a lot of fun with that offense.
Dallas Cowboys - The two TE set will allow this team to control the ball. They bounce back this season
New York Giants - The defense looks great, but having NO WRs will cost them a couple of Ws
Washington Redskins - Jason Campbell will never amount to shit

North
Minnesota Vikings - Favre has a nice running game to count on for a balanced offense, but we all know he'll fuck it up in the playoffs
Green Bay Packers - The defense is healthy and Aaron Rogers is the real deal. They push for a WC
Chicago Bears - The defense is overrated and Cutler has NOBODY to throw to.
Detroit Lions - This team could turn some heads on offense, but that defense is still a mess.

South
Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan has White and Gonzo to throw to now. Look the fuck out
Carolina Panthers - Mike Goodson and D Williams means less on Delhomme's shoulders
New Orleans Saints = The defense is still a year away
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - No QB and bew coach = transition season

West
Seattle Seahawks - They bounce back and take the division
Arizona Cardinals - They lost a few pieces on defense and that will cost them
San Francisco 49ers - The defense could surprise some people but they still lack any chance of stretching the field
St. Louis Rams - Injuries are already starting to mount up on an already bad team

Wildcards -

AFC: Indianapolis & Houston
NFC: Dallas & Green Bay

Conference Champs

AFC: Pats
NFC: Eagles

Super Bowl

Eagles

AFC EAST

Patriots- What will be their downfall is the lack of a running game.
Bills- Not a playoff team by any means, but more even than last year.
Dolphins- Last year was a fluke. They will fall back to 6-10 this season.
Jets- I don't see them doing shit.....they were exposed last December.

AFC NORTH

Steelers- They are set up to repeat. Pittsburgh is stacked this year.
Bengals- Even with dipshit still on the team, watch them put together a solid campaign.
Ravens- Every other year they get over. This is one of the years where the breaks don't go their way.
Browns- A team of complete horse shit.

AFC SOUTH

Colts- The Freeney/Brackett/Sanders combo keeps things rolling.
Titans- There has to be a falloff, but still probably 11-5.
Texans- Secondary blows, but otherwise talented and they have some nice little breaks in their schedule.
Jaguars- People had them as a Super Bowl contender this time last year. I agree about Del Rio. He's fucked.

AFC WEST

Chargers- I give them one more year of this window to win a Super Bowl, then they will decline.
Raiders- Everyone laughs at Russell, but I'm seeing this differently. I think he fucks up so much that Garcia gets in there and leads them to respectability.
Chiefs- Kind of like the Bengals....can threaten for 8-8, but who gives a shit.
Broncos- Buckhalter the feature back? You have to be shitting me.

WIld cards: Titans, Texans

NFC EAST

Cowboys- All the pieces are finally in place, and the right chemistry is there.
Giants- Too much defense not to make the playoffs.
Eagles- Will disappoint big time. They had a fluke run at the end of the year that made everyone circle jerk. They still suck.
Redskins- Bottom of the barrel and headed in the wrong direction.

NFC NORTH

Vikings- This franchise has a history of never winning games they need to and getting over the hump. This year will be no different.
Packers- Those linebackers are going to blossom, and I see stability on offense.
Bears- Not much better than last year. That entire offense sucks except Cutler, who will be baffled by the bullshit he has to work with.
Lions- I'd like to see Schottenheimer come in and coach them to 7-9.

NFC SOUTH

Saints- The past couple years people have pitted them at NFC title favorites, and they fuck up. Now, with nobody talking about them they'll somehow win the division.
Falcons- Sophomore slump for Ryan and the Falcons remember they are the Falcons.
Panthers- Done. They are going to suck this year.
Buccanneers- Clearly rebuilding....may be good in a couple years.

NFC WEST

49ers- They should surprise this year.
Cardinals- the team that loses the Super Bowl never makes the playoffs. And this is the CARDINALS.
Seahawks- I can't see it being any better....plus, Mora is soft and will not help at all.
Rams- A couple first round busts on the d-line and a sack of mule shit on offense.

Wild Cards- Giants, Falcons

Conference Champs:
AFC: Pittsburgh over New England
NFC: Dallas over Giants

Image

Dallas 34, Pittsburgh 17

Running back by committee never works these days. If you have four ok backs, you have nothing.
Cowboys- All the pieces are finally in place, and the right chemistry is there What pieces did the Add exactly

Olshanky and Brooking on a D that is already loaded, and they cut loose some dead weight like Williams, Zack Thomas and Greg Ellis.
Eagles- Will disappoint big time. They had a fluke run at the end of the year that made everyone circle jerk.Huh? - Explain?
They were sitting at 5-5-1 and on the outside looking in and then went on a 4-1 hot streak. Not only did they need to win in Week 17, but they needed about six other teams to lose while gaining less than 250 yards, and they needed Drew Brees to throw two interceptions and for Howie Long to wear a yellow tie on the set of the NFL on FOX....somehow all of that shit broke their way that Sunday and they got in. People love to look at that fucking wild card team from the year before that got hot and slot them in the Conference title game or Super Bowl and then try to be the first to say they called it. Stop.
Bears- Not much better than last year. That entire offense sucks except Cutler, Matt Forte Sucks? - Their O-line Sucks?
The O-line doesn't suck, but it's suspect. They have three new starters, two old asses, and it will take a long time for it to gell if it does at all. Forte is good but he'll be asked to do too much.

Sanchez is no Ryan...lol who is and uh how could you even determine that anyway? I mean just wondering how many games you have seen of Sanchez because Lord knows, you mid-west/east folk take in all the USC GAMES. Plus, how you factor in the Turner/White advantage? CLEARLY superior to that of what Sanchez has to work with.

Alright, so I did my express breakdown.

NFC East - forget it. You're talent levels are too close. You beat each other up and have to send a possible conference contender on the road where you will all get your asses kicked, except maybe The NYG but I don't think you will be leading that division and you're only getting one team in probably as The South and West will probably have better records.

NFC West - forget it. You all suck for January. AZ 2 years in a row? Maybe division champs again but not the same perfect playoff match ups and if your runner up gets in, it's Lion feeding time.

NFC South - Atlanta is the only prayer with some upset potentail from New Orleans. ATL is an overall threat and capable of handling the schedule better than the others. Anytime Carolina has to roll through The NFC East, I chalk it up to a lost season but they are not DONE LOL. They always get out played down the end against this division, hmmmmm wonder why. I will hope and pray but if CAR does anything spectacular and I say, "I told you so" rip me to shreds.

NFC North - believe it, Favre, errrr Adrian Peterson has what he needs now. This schedule has some spotty challenges and could end on a down swing but other than going into PIT after a week of recovery from BAL (toss up), this is their only real monster challenge. MIN with home field seeing anyone but ATL? I like their chances if they see for instance Arizona and then PHI or maybe NYG? They get NYG at home in the final, win or lose back to back in MIN for The SB, I like MIN.

AFC East - Almost the same statement as The NFC but The Jets are in 5 win goal mode and The Dolphins? Well....yea. NWE another great season but one that will call for 3 playoff wins for a SB berth.

AFC West - Nothing to see here but go Broncos! Hoping for the best and shocker. Cutler is a cock boy.

AFC South - Tennessee, simply built to handle that schedule better than anyone else in the division but don't see them as a legit January threat. Indy is solid enough but just seem to need perfect situations to get over.

AFC North - Same as last year, no reason to not think PIT doesn't take it again and they probably get the #1 seed. The late BAL games are huge as ever. If The PATS miss that bye and end up say having to go, TEN, BAL, PIT, goodnight now.

So there is my whackass express run down. I can't stand that I am picking a Favre lead team but that's how monster I think the impact will be for Adrian Peterson. AP goes down this is all shot.

MIN @ PIT Oct 25th, get ready for your preview.

Steelers repeat

I disagree Paul. I saw the Raider starters a few weeks ago, and to my surprise their young receivers ran pretty good routes. If JaJabba had any kind of mental capacity to read a defense he would have found an open receiver or two, and this was against the cowboy defense. It didn't take long for Gradkowski to find those receivers and he did a pretty darn good job for them. The Raider running game will speak for itself this year, and the more you hold onto the rock, the better chance you have of keeping the other offense on the bench and not scoring points.

Let's be real here. It's not like 11-5 or even 10-6 is going to win your division. More like 8-8 or even 7-9 might get you to the top. The Raiders, led by anyone other than JaJabba, can get them there. The only thing to worry about, with the exception of Denver, is that the other teams can win the division as well. So picking the Raiders may be a little stretch, but by no means is it impossible, or even unlikely. Raiders have young talent who may shock a few people.

DF, I think this deal with Cable clocking Al's lap dog ERRR "asst. coach" is going to get a lot worse before it gets better for them. If the police decide to press charges against Cable for doing that then you can go right ahead and pencil them in at another 5-11 record AT BEST.

JaDoubleDouble SHOULD be a better QB this year, but until I see it for myself (and reading reports of his sheer lack of work ethic off the field can't be good) he's going to be the guy holding that team back from doing ANYTHING positive. Hey RaydahFan, it could be worse.....at least you're not rooting for the Donkeys. What an absolute train wreck that squad has become in less than a year's time. Yikes.

Now that the season is almost upon us I think its easier to make some of these calls.

AFC

East
New England Patriots - The cream rises to the top with Brady back in tow
Miami Dolphins - Surprised last year and won't this season
New York Jets - Rookie QB, but could surprise a few teams this year
Buffalo Bills - Offense stinks starting with the Oline, top 10 draft pick

North
Pittsburgh Steelers - Look tough again
Baltimore Ravens - Only contender in division
Cincinnati Bengals - Another team that could surprise....if Palmer stays healthy
Cleveland Browns - Another team looking at a top 10 pick next year

South
Indianapolis Colts - Manning keeps them on top of the division
Tennessee Titans - They're good as long as they don't depend on Kerry Collins, but at some point they'll have to
Houston Texans - Schaub's a porcelain doll, Dan Orlovsky? Bwhahahaha
Jacksonville Jaguars - Not enough players on both sides of the LOS.

West
San Diego Chargers - Even Norv can't fuck this up
Kansas City Chiefs - A top 10 selection next year
Denver Broncos - A top 10 selection next year
Oakland Raiders - This team will be the first in the division to quit, a top 10 selection next year

NFC

East
Philadelphia Eagles - Solid team with good coaching
New York Giants - Not a believer in Eli or his WR's
Dallas Cowboys - Another owner running a team, unsuccessfully in terms of wins.
Washington Redskins - This teams lack of success can be directly linked to Daniel Snider's involvement in the front office (see above & Raiduhs).

North
Green Bay Packers - Flying under the radar without distractions or major injuries
Minnesota Vikings - Farve wasn't up to snuff last season & I doubt he will be for a full season this year either
Chicago Bears - No matter how much pouting Cutler does he can't push them over the top
Detroit Lions - A top 10 draft pick in the waiting

South
New Orleans Saints - Poised for a rebound
Atlanta Falcons - Much tougher schedule & won't surprise anyone this year
Carolina Panthers = Seemingly destined for derailment due to injuries
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - QB musical chairs, new staff & tough division

West
Seattle Seahawks - Poised for a rebound assuming Hasselbeck stays healthy
Arizona Cardinals - Super Bowl hangover, defense looks off, can Warner stay upright?
San Francisco 49ers - Singletary's best work was probably done last season
St. Louis Rams - A top 10 draft pick

Wildcards -

AFC: Ten & Bmore
NFC: Giants and Vikings

Conference Champs

AFC: Chargers (flying under the radar too)
NFC: Packers

Super Bowl

Chargers - What can I say, I'm a homer.

Sanchez had a good first game - surprising as the Texans D was suppossed to be something.

I saw SC play twice last season - both OSU , but they're not a good barometer of Sanchez NFL predictions.
He still doesn't have the arm strength to make all the throws needed at this level - but in a WCO he may be OK

Duane your hot dog eating expertise notwithstanding, I'll say I made a bad call on Sanchez. He's been far better than I expected, even though he's had a few struggles over the past couple games

Shoalzie kicked ass here.

7 correct division winners called and 9 of the 12 playoff teams called.

Be interesting to see who does the best with their Conference Championship and Super Bowl predictions.

Coods: 4 division winners, 6 playoff teams

Paul: 4 division winners, 6 playoff teams

Rumps: 3 division winners, 7 playoff teams

YaFJ: 6 division winners, 6 playoff teams

DFan: 3 division winners, 7 playoff teams

mvscal: 3 division winners called, 6 playoff teams

poptart: 3 division winners called, 6 playoff teams called

To be fair, I went chalk big time but it came through this year.

Going into the playoffs, is Packers-Chargers that crazy of a Super Bowl pick? It didn't look good early on but both teams are rolling at the right time. Three weeks ago, we were all bracing ourselves for the Perfect Bowl...to me, it's wide ass open in both conference. All you have to do is get in and you never know.

DFan correctly nailed the Colts to win the AFC.

Cuda and I correctly nailed the Saints to win the NFC.

Coods made no call on the Super Bowl champ.
DFan had the Colts losing the big one.

I had N.O. winning the whole thing, so I'm the only one who's pre-season Super Bowl Champion pick is still alive.
