So, in answer to the actual question, yes she is dumber than she appears. Her ability to appear basically competent is due to the same practice and diligence of her flute playing. But what's overlooked in the dismissal of Brood Mare is the utter shallowness of her mind--coupled with her genuine nasty personal qualities of intolerance and a real viciousness. Her demented Christer heap space quickly adapts a n "ends justify means" approach to wielding power, and even though she may well end up in Ted Stevens' senate seat, her clumsy manner will continue, her disgrace will mount.

But, perhaps you saw the SNL election compilation show they aired on Monday. Well, it turns out that when she initially appeared on the show, she had recorded a spot that wasn't included either on the original live show or the compilation--but was included in the rerun this Saturday. It was very interesting. Basically, she was speaking very articulately--and chillingly--about her treatment at the hands of SNL--and pledged to win and take revenge by way of the "Palin Doctrine." She revealed more perhaps than either party had expected, and it' was pretty obvious why they omitted it from both earlier shows. She's nasty business, more than a bad joke.
