If you think the NBA and NHL exceed Nascar, you're fooling yourself.

i hope you don't think it's football

they play 8 home games. they play once a week

they have horrible ratings on monday night and thursday nights.

Any sport where the League forces teams to put out injury lists for gambling purposes, isn't exactly out national pasttime.

Th, probably depends on what "national pastime" means.
Since the 1960s, football has surpassed baseball as the most popular spectator sport in the U.S.

Exactly why it is.

Nothing more All-American than gambling, if you really think about it.

Only a complete moron would think it something other than football..

our national pastime is to sit on our fat lazy asses and watch all four sports right about now when the mlb playoffs, nhl, nba, and nfl are all in action. We do this because we can and it's th American way. Whether tailgaiting with your friends at the game or kicking it back at home with your wife between your legs. No matter you always make sure to bring your drink of choice and win or lose you're still toasted until the buzzer kicks your ass out of bed Monday morning.

Football is being called America's passion...however there still are few things better than going to the ballpark on a sunny day and drinking beer. It doesn't matter what is the official pastime...they're all great to watch.

after the MLB strike, I think it was football. Now a days I'm thinking it's back to baseball, depending on the team and the city.

It could easily go either way when it comes to football or baseball.

Baseball has not been our “National Pastime” for a long time now!
Football is by far the most important sport in America!

On a purely professional level, football and baseball are close, although I think football wins. Factor in that college football is even bigger than pro in many areas compared to college baseball which is, uhh, wait, do they even have college baseball?

As a combined pro/college sport, it ain't even close.

Always considered baseball to be our national pastime. Agree with Adelpiero regarding football. Going to a baseball game beckons memories of how it was back in the day and especially of childhood things; breaking in a new glove, playing catch with dad and hearing the crack of the bat. In my case it was a "swing and a miss."

The one constant through all the years, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

I'll cast a vote for Football. Basketball and baseball have begun to be played and played well abroad. Talent from other countries streams into the US (easy, AP). Will that ever happen the same way with football? Probably not.

I started playing baseball at the age of 5 and fell in love w/ the game. The game was our national pastime up until the strike of '94. I think my father's generation might still look at baseballl as the nat'l pastime, but my generation and younger now view football as the passion of the american sportsfan. Nothing is better than the fall b/c Saturday and Sunday are filled w/ game after game.

I once flipped back and forth between a baseball game and a football game with my wife. She hates both, but when the baseball was on she complained about how slow it was in comparison to football. Conferences on the mound, pitchers throwing to first, batters fouling off 8 pitches in a row. She bitched that nothing happens for 20-30 minutes at a time. Then we went back to football. Double-reverses, hail mary, shattering collisions, long runs, TOUCHDOWNS!

To the uninitiated, football has action, excitement, variety. It is compelling and vibrant. Baseball is 3 hours of foul tips and fat old guys visiting the mound.
Now pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the fucking car.
