New Depeche Mode: Coming Soon!

Post by Funkywhiteboy »

"Playing The Angel"
Release date: Oct. 18.

I'm geeked for it!

The video for the first single, "Precious", can be seen at depechemode.com.
If the tune is any indication, this one promises to be a vast improvement over "Exciter",
which I found somewhat disappointing.

I didn't get seriously into DM 'til "Violator", then I went backwards
and fleshed out my collection.
Also added several black items to my wardrobe. 8)

WAR "Enjoy The Silence"!

I'm about to cream myself over the new album!!!! I am one of those completely obsessed DM fans... I even sport the rose tattoo on my calf.

Holy shit, Precious is fucking awesome!!! Got the leaked version of it earlier and couldn't stop playing it!!

DM has been my favorite band since I was 14... and I'm 30 now. My oldest brother had a friend in California and he sent us either People are People or Catching Up With, and I used to listen to those tapes in my room and dance to them (give me a break, I was 10). When Violator came out, that was it. I was completely and totally hooked.

I must say, one of the darkest DM days for me was when Alan Wilder left. He was the musical backbone genius to the melodies, keyboards, and rhythms of DM. But I did hear that he's going to go back to the studio and will possibly help out with some backlog DM (not sure what that means). There's a snippet about it here: http://www.depeche-mode.com/

Just ordered our tickets for the Dallas show yesterday morning. We're going pretty conservative this tour compared to Exciter - in which we paid $250 for 5th row tickets in Dallas, but only had to pay $42 for 3rd row tickets in Albuquerque. Fucking ticket brokers. This year we are tight on money, so we got the mid-range tickets. Section 118 in the American Airlines section... anybody been to Mavericks games here? How are the seats?

God, I can't fucking wait for the new album!!!! Four years is a hell of a long time to wait.

"A Pain That I'm Used To"- great stuff!
Glad that I listened past the first few seconds, 'cause that's the only part I didn't care for. :P
Nice to see 'Mode back on the musical map,
and hopeful that David Gahan stays off the smack.

RACK PrimeX - Thanks for the link!

Just listened to PTA all the way through, and wrote a quick review on the DM message board, so here's the C&P:
I've just listened to it all the way through, and this is the first time I've ever been a little disappointed in the new DM album. Suffer Well is my favorite so far, followed by Precious. But the rest are going to take some getting used to. It sounds like they took The Dead of Night and ran with it throughout the entire album. What's with all the feedback and noise? Give me back the keyboards and melodies!

I did not like Dave's solo stuff a whole lot either, and PTA sounds like it was fashioned in a similar way. I don't know... it just seems so... mainstream?

This will in no way change my mind about buying the album, all the singles, and going to the concert, but I'm left wanting. It's such an odd feeling (never felt this with DM before) and I feel like I'm betraying my favorite band. I know they can't keep pushing out one Violator after another, but PTA was not the direction I was hoping DM would go in.

Maybe I just need to listen to it a few more times. But I've never had to do that with a DM album in the past. Or maybe I'm getting old. Combo of both, maybe?

It's still a really good album, but nothing close to Violator. If it sounds like any other DM album, I would say more like SoFaD because of all the noise and guitars. But it's not really like any of their other albums.

Mostly it's the "getting old" part. :P

I'll agree that "Violator" is better, but this one isn't far below.
"Precious" is one of those tunes that get into my head, and I don't mind leaving it there awhile.
A worthy addidion to the DM catalogue.
While it may not be their best ever, it's certainly better than "Exciter".
That one, for the most part, wasn't very exciting.

PrimeX,

Enjoy the show tonight!!! I'll be seeing them tomorrow night!! I'm so excited, I can barely sit still at work today.

I heard from a pretty reliable source that Photographic was a confirmed song for the tour. But I'm starting to wonder if they are saving that for the European leg of the tour. I wouldn't be surprised... they always save the cool shit for Europe.

I've been listening to PTA a lot lately, but I still don't think it's anywhere close to Violator or even SOFAD. Too much damn noise, not enough layering or melodies. But still a pretty damn good album. I like all the songs, except Nothing's Impossible. That sounds like they threw a bunch of noisy shit together on some drumbeat and called it a song. Suffer Well and Precious are still my favs, followed by John the Revelator, I Want It All, Macro, and Lilian.

I've been checking the DM message board to see how the shows are going so far. No IYR, unfortunately, but I'm mega excited they are playing World in My Eyes. That's the Kat's fav. Other problems are the typical tour-starting fuck ups... drumbeats off, wrong keys, messing up words, sound is too loud (can't hear vocals) etc.

We're going to try bringing in our biocam (binoculars w/built in camera) so we can get some good pictures. We tested it out on the Baylor/OU game when we were there and some of the pictures turned out so well, you would have thought we were right there on the field. Will post some if they come out well.
