Four players in the top 100 ans I think two of them are top 10 so hell yeah. Ohio State is sitting pretty damn well for the future.

I have a couple of Ohio State contacts that are in the know that I have known for years. I don't pay attention to their ramblings too often but I have been listening in about their recruiting class. It's been impressive.

I see the point of getting some game in. and even the NBA rules. but why go to a team the has almost no chance in hell to play in the tourney?

You're all wrong.

Number 1, Ohio State will not lose out on any additional postseason play. The one-year self-imposed ban will be the end of any postseason bans for the Bucks.

Number 2, even if OSU were to lose one more season of postseason play, none of these recent recruits (Oden, Cook, Lighty and Conley) would be impacted. These guys haven't even even begun their senior years of high school. These guys are 2006-07 recruits.... not 05-06... and thus would not be impacted by an additional year penalty. There's no way in hell Ohio State would get a three-year postseason ban under the circumstances. I'm not even sure the program would've gotten a one year ban had the school not self-imposed it.

Number 3, these recruits you speak of are not "one and done" guys. These are young men who have bought into That Matta's vision regarding the future of Ohio State basketball. They want to win a national championship, and I believe they will. Greg Oden is the only one that I think might leave after his freshman year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay at least two years. This guy really enjoys school -- in fact, he had already announced that he was going to college even before the NBA agreement became official.

Ohio State is known for its football, but there's a lot of history surrounding the basketball program as well. That Matta is one of the best recruiters in college basketball, not to mention being perhaps the hottest young coach in the country who has a reputation of being a lot of fun to play for... and a great X's and O's guy to boot.

The bottom line is that the Ohio State basketball program is, at most, two seasons away from being right on bar with the Dukes, UNCs, and Kentuckys of the world for many, many years to come.

1 was going into nba draft, other is playing 1 year.

Okay, even assuming you're right --which I don't think you are -- what about the other three top-50 guys that will be a part of this class? What about the other 5 or 6 existing players that will be joining that 06-07 class? What about the three or four more top-50 recuits that will be coming on board in the 07-08 class when Oden/Cook/Conley/Lighty/??? would all be sophomores?

It's interesting to me that you think you know more about what these kids are thinking than they do. There's no question that these are some of the most talented prep stars in the world, but that doesn't mean they're automatically prohibited from wanting to play college basketball for 2 or more seasons.

Basketball success at Ohio State is nothing new. Going back all the way to the 50s and 60s and the Fred Taylor/John Havlicek/Jerry Lucas days, Ohio State has always been considered one of the top football/basketball combo schools in the country. Also, a lot of people seem to forget that the Bucks have made a Final Four and won multiple Big Ten Championships in just the past 6 seasons alone. With this year's recruiting class being as good as it is.... followed by what many are calling one of the top 5 recruiting classes in the history of college basketball..... I don't see how any reasonable person could say that this program won't be "top-five" within two seasons.

The facilities in Columbus are second to none. The in-state talent is clearly there. The history is there. The fans are certainly there. And now, the coach is finally there.

Bottom line -- everything needed for an elite college basketball program exists in Columbus, OH. It just took the hiring of a guy like That Matta to get things pointed in the right direction again.
