swabbie is kind of dated. squid is more contemporary, although it was already in wide use when I joined almost 30 years afogo. titlover may be correct. i think grunt may just mean infantry dude, be he Army or Marines. The Navy has infantry dudes too. They are called Seals aka, badass mofos.

Pretty much why I enlisted.

Don't really care what you call me since whatever it is will be out of envy. During the years I spent in it, can't recall ever hearing anyone say, "You know, Sarge, I regret joining the AF. I woulda been better off enlisting in the <insert inferior service branch>." But I did know several people in the AF who were prior-Navy. They were straight, so I'm sure Navy life was tough for them to adapt to. Glad to see you have no such trouble.
