When Florida's electoral votes can swing an election,

you convene there even if it's a zombie apocalypse.

You must have been in the wrong part of Tampa then.

It was a while ago. Here's the places I remember from the month we were down there. Mind you, this was 25 years ago.
  • We stayed in Land O'Lakes. Yawn.

Spent some time in the Sombrero area at a Bucs game and saw Rocky IV at a mall down there.

Busch Gardens where we went "on safari" and saw the War Wagon Memorial Pancreas exhibit.

Tarpon Springs, which smelled like sponges and salt water. Oh, and we got rained on by some kind of monsoon.

Bradenton (quick day trip to stepbrother's grandparents and a bait shop. I have no idea why we went to a bait shop and never fished, ask my dad.

Zephyrhills, where I got crazy drunk with some retired Florida trooper and his family on New Years. It kinda pissed of my parents. They should have seen me in college. Besides, the cop was crazier than me. I'll just say that gunfire was a part of the festivities.
    Gunfire and lots of booze.

Orlando for 2 stops at Disney. We went to Magic Kingdom and the newly opened Epcot Center.

And wherever the hell Malibu Grand Prix is located down there. That place fucking ruled. They had 1/4 size Grand Prix cars on a scale track. Yea, that didn't suck at all. What did suck was my dad pwning us all on the clock. I guess his experience as a race car driver didn't hurt him.
Don't get me wrong, it was a great month. Probably about as cool a family trip as we've ever had. So I can't really knock Tampa.

Had a Malibu Grand Prix down the street from me -- they must have bought it out, as it's now Malibu Racing.

I guess it's a non-frozen climate thing.

I guess we get to see if NO has improved its hurricane plans. At least Nagin isn't mayor. How did he ever get reelected after that SNAFU?

Hopefully one of the geniuses down there plans
to get the buses fired up this time around.

If not, I blame George Bush.

Storm surge shouldn't be as high with Isaac, but more rain should fall. With the river levels much lower this year than in 2005 there is a lot more room for water to flow outward. Plus this storm wasn't and never will reach cat 5 status as Katrina did.

65MPH wind gusts with heavy rain?

Round these parts, we call that "winter," a phenomenon that seems to happen every year. Lasts more than a couplefew hours, too.

You are just so special to live in Oregone. Everything is just the coolest there, so you must be too.

Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown elected Nagin mayor of Nawlins?

I'd really like to know how that worked. I'm thinking of running in Wasilla.

Thought y'all might be interested in some of these pics taken locally here in the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area of the outer bands passing over us.

Destin this afternoon before it really started to hit with the storm surge.

Another behind Angler's; half the park has been covered by sand, our famous landshark is completely gone.

Miramar Beach just a few blocks from me on Old 98 in Destin.

Actually it has been completely quiet other than for a couple hours last night. Nothing like in Pississippi and Nawlins.

The first one doesn't look real. Not saying it isn't but amazing lighting, colors and contrast. Looks like a painting by one of those guys who exaggerates everything.

It's real. It was right before one of the first storm bands was coming at us at dusk. I just was able to take the picture at what was a perfect moment. But our water in Destin really is crystal clear with an emerald shade and pure white sand. It's because of the silt that washes out from the Apalachicola into the gulf and the current carries it directly to Destin where it settles. Nothing else like it in the world.

Awesome pier pics, dude.

Suxx about the landshark.
