USC-Cal in game...

Post by Van »

Getting ready to go here, and we get the B Team announcers, which means no Musberger, which is a plus.

God, I hate Cal's UCLA circus music 'fight' song.

They're making a big deal about USC's commitment to win this one for Stafon Johnson, with everyone wearing his #13 on their eye black.

Ooooh!

Wonder if m2 will make a showing here? If Cal loses, we may never see him again, but here's the question: After his puss job disappearance following the raping by Oregon how much of a bitch move would it be for him to come back in here should Cal win tonight?

Now that'd be worth getting banned.

said this in another thread, with OU-Miami in the east time zone and Cal-USC out west, how this isn't a double-header?

Picking up where the Oregon game left off, USC's TEs are killing Cal again.

McKnight goes off for an awesome bomb of a TD run!!

Kevin Riley will likely end up being the difference in this game...for USC.

So far, his brainfart on the pick and his errant throw to Best ended Cal's first two drives. Cal will not win this game if they have to depend on Best to win it for them, and they won't win it with Riley making more mistakes than Barkley.

And there it is, right on cue, the holding penalty on the TE to kill the big play, which would've given them 1st and goal.

USC's holding penalties this season have just been drive killers. This one step forward, two steps back shit just has to stop.

Yep, now they have to do a chipshot FG instead of the easy TD.

Fuck. 10-0.

On the plus side, Cal isn't even slowing down USC's offense so far, and USC got points out of their first two series, while Cal came up empty in theirs.

Third and long for Cal, from deep in their own zone. If they go three and out here and USC converts with more points, Cal's in deep trouble.

Riley missed. Three and out.

Cal is circling the drain. They have to stop USC on this drive or it's already game over.

Goddammit, another holding penalty to negate a conversion of 2nd and 18...and it was a bullshit call. That was not even close to being a hold.

4th and 1 from the 38 or thereabouts. Cal has to get the stop here...

Fuck. They got the stop. Wasn't even close. Another drive killed by a holding penalty.

That 4th and 1 is where Stafon Johnson would've gotten the carry.

That play just kept Cal in the game.

Cal responds with an end around...which USC's defensive speed strings out and snuffs out for a loss.

End of the 1st quarter. USC 10-0.

USC has to clean up the holding penalties, but that second one was bullshit, and it was a drive killer. USC left ten points on the field that quarter - at least 7 - and Cal left at least 3 on the field.

Btw, aren't blatant pick plays supposed to be illegal? They never seem to get called, and Cal just did another one.

Cal's fans are getting restless, after Cal does another three and out. Their vaunted offense got completely shut down last week, but that was on the road.

They're getting shut down here too, at home, in a must win "statement game."

And USC just returned a Cal punt for a TD...

Still, the problem is Cal can never beat USC if they can never score on USC, and every year that's always their problem: They just can't score enough to win.

17-0, and it's soon going to be a case of Best being taken out of the game plan, at which point Cal's done.

Cal has to answer here...

Broken play, for a wide open 20 yard gain to open their drive. Big play.

10-7, OU. pretty sloppy game. Miami hurting themselves with penalties, OU out of sync on O.

Nada. Riley missed...then missed again. He's not handling USC's pass rush very well. He's rushing his passes and missing.

After the opening drive Jahvid Best has been a total non-factor.

Okay, USC can end the game already, right here. If they go 85 yards here and just jam it down Cal's throat for another score it's over. Cal's bench is already completely dispirited, and so are the fans.

that's hard to believe, since all their position groups are the best in the country and the fastest.
