Couldn't beat the Gators.

Couldn't beat the Patriots (when it mattered).

Couldn't beat the AFC's 6th seed in the first round of the playoffs, with homefield advantage and a regular season 13 game winning streak.

Couldn't keep his head up after a little adversity in a playoff game.

Throws teammates under the bus in postgame press conference and weeks later, denies any wrongdoing on ESPN.

Turns into Kurt Warner when his protection breaks down.

Is there a more overrated piece of shit than Peyton Manning?

I dont think he's overrated. He hasnt won a ring but he still has another 5-6 good years in him. I think that this past season was his best chance, but I would like to see him get a ring. If douches like Rypien, Dilfer and Hostetler get one, then I hope he does as well.

I can't count Peyton out . He does have one of the best GM's in the NFL , good ownership , and those count big time when building a championship team .

If Roethlisberger and Dilfer can get one , I'm sure Manning can .

I say no. Peyton's thumbprints are never going to be on a team more than they were this past few seasons.

Let me familiarize you with a concept. Football is a team sport. When One Player grabs too much, then it's One Player against 11 opponents. Peyton chokes in big games. It would be better for him if a coordinator told him exactly what plays to run and when...because he isn't in a position to do so himself, not in today's game.

He cries about protection as if the pocket is his birthright...he's actually surprised that someone had the temerity to step in. Pathetic.

When the chips are down, when he's facing 11 guys and a coordinator that has guided a defense into contention for a title, Peyton is outgunned. I'll take his opponent every time.

That divisional game vs Pittsburgh was probably Peyton's best "big game" of his career. He didn't do anything to choke it away. He threw for 300 yards, a TD and committed no INTs. At some point you have to look at factors other than JUST the QB.

That's exactly the point I'm making. Too much of the gameplan resides in one dude's performance. Shut him down, and you win. Joey Porter was sent on a blitz that Peyton, in his infinite field wisdom, was totally unprepared for. How was this possible? A coordinator made it happen.

Imagine that, Peyton...a coordinator...e fucking gads.

Why not criticize the QB? His lack of poise, happy feet, and continual over throws were in particular a factor in the out come. As was the lack of opportunities Edge had. Peyton through tantrums better than balls in that divisional game.

But that was his best performance in a divisional game?

It was almost like a dream sequence when I was watching Manning make that "comeback," because it didn't even feel real. Probably because it shouldn't have been. Especially after seeing Polamalu make a great play, only to go unrewarded. Imagine if the refs took away Manning's touchdown pass to Dallas Clark. Would the game even be close? No. So when the shoe's on the other foot, Manning is an even bigger choker.

But let's do a flashback. Let's take a look at some of those "factors other than JUST the QB" in Manning's other playoff losses, shall we?

AFC Wildcard Game: lost 0 - 41 at New York Jets

It's one thing if Manning lost 41-38. Quite another when you can't even muster a single, solitary point.

2003
AFC Championship Game: lost 14 - 24 at New England Patriots

Colts trailed 21-7 until the final 3 minutes of the game, where Manning threw his 1st touchdown of the day. I suppose we should blame the defense for not holding the Pats to 7 points or fewer?

2004
AFC Divisional Playoff: lost 3 - 20 at New England Patriots

Again, if the Colts had a DEFENSE and just pitched a shut-out, Manning wins!

Seriously, this guy has a pattern that dates back to college. He chokes in the big games, and he is the biggest contributing factor to why his team chokes every single year.

If an isolated play by Manning was the reason the Colts lost, then I'd say the TEAM didn't do enough to win the game. Individual players will make individual mistakes. Roethlisburger made mistakes throughout the playoffs, but his teammates were playing at a very high level.

A series of stupid plays by Manning, combined with said isolated play, were all contributing factors to the loss.

The biggest problem for Manning is his extreme lack of mobility.

Marino had a very similar limitation, and it's no coincidence that he was also not able to win a Super Bowl.

In this day and age, a QB needs to work effectively from the pocket, but also have at least a bit of ability to move from the pocket and use his legs.

[Trent Dilfer]I don't think it's impossible for Manning to win a Super Bowl[/Trent Dilfer], but if I was a betting man I would bet against it.

Sorry to bump a really old thread...but as I read this, I am more and more convinced. Manning will never get over that hump as lng as he is in a position where he trumps his own sideline. One guy cannot beat an entire team and an entire opposing coaching staff. The offense becomes far too one-dimensional, and a coordinator will bring blitzes derived from overhead cam shots, from the input of many coaches, from the reports from players on the field. Sure, Manning smokes the AFC for most of the season, but inevitably, he faces a defense that is well-constructed, and he cannot get past it alone.
