Musberger is especially cheeky tonight. using the word "rascals" more than a few times.

Big stop for Cal - sorta - by holding USC to a FG.

USC's red zone offense sucks Bruin cock so far this season.

20-0.

Cal has to score before halftime, just for the emotional lift. They have to prove to themselves they can at least score on USC.

USC will be scary once Barkley and his receivers get on the same page. By season's end they could be pretty damn good; they just have to find a way to stay afloat until then.

Taylor fucking Mays!! No other safety in the country makes that play to outrun Best to the stripe!

That play right there was Cal-USC , in a nutshell. Against any other opponent, Best gets the corner. Against USC's speed, they're punting.

4.25 speed, from a 235 lb safety, who just ran down the fastest guy to ever yak up his breakfast on national tv.

FUCK YOU, CAL! USC IS WHERE CAL GOES TO DIE!!

I don't think SC's defense is gonna let it happen.

Mays closing the gap and tackling Best there was amazing.

USC's O is still very sloppy. No doubt. They're playing better, and at least finally opening it up a little, but their D is so damn good that they're getting away with the sloppy offense.

Nice speed by Kevin Thomas to run that guy down from behind, preventing him from getting out of bounds.

Cal's in FG position though.

This is like last year. Cal got 3.

Cal just officially threw up the white flag there, by settling for a FG attempt with :12 seconds left...and missing it.

Even with that much time on the clock Tedford was actually afraid to let Riley even attempt another pass there, for fear of a sack or a pick. That's bad, very bad, Cal Fan. Your coach would rather concede their only scoring opportunity in lieu of not having to face the USC D.

Cal's fans just boo'd Cal off the field, heading into halftime.

Go ahead and score on your opening drive of the second half, USC, and end the game right then and there.

They are. Cal left a few points on the field that half, but USC left many more.

I don't like USC's inability to convert short yardage situations, and their poor 3rd down conversion % is still troubling. Their O is still very much a work in progress, and it's obviously still very much in its nascent stage.

I can see some potential there, though. As they open up the passing game and Barkley and his receivers grow more comfortable with each other their running game is going to be as unstoppable as we were expecting it to be this season.

Just gotta get a handle on the drive killing holding penalties. Those things are a continual bitch.

This is the first weekend that we get ESPN360 here in PHX. It's a good thing, since the OU/Miami game is way more intriguing than watching SC bitchslap Cal yet again...

Barkley misses high. Gotta hit Williams there.
The opportunities are there, once they get it down.

Nice. He hit Butler right between the numbers there, for a huge third down conversion.

It's about time to hit the TE in the back of the end zone here...

Fuck. Too high, too hard, missing Williams again.

They just can't get it done in the red zone. They ate up half the 3rd quarter with that drive, but again it stalled out in the red zone, settling for another FG.

23-0, and it feels like much more than that.

At this point I just don't want Cal coming back with cosmetic points, just to fuck up my Pick 'Em pick. USC could be up by more than thirty here, easy. With all of USC's blunders, they better at least cover.

I just hope they don't mail in the second half, and go into Prevent offense and defense, turning a dominating performance into an artificially close game.

Btw, Jahvid Bust has now gone 9-31 this game.

Turn out the lights. They're now just playing to see what the final deficit will be. Cal now just has to avoid getting shut out at home.

That was one shitty end to a promising drive. Gotta hold onto that, Ayles.

The best thing I can say here is that as so-so as they're executing offensively they can only get better. If they can just win while learning, I guess that'll have to be good enough.

Funny thing, though. The D was supposed to be carried by the O this year, since the D has nine new starters and the O only has two. Instead, the D is carrying the team while the O tries to grow into their new QB.

Jesus, I wish Sanchez had stuck around. Dammit, USC would just be killing fools.

End of a meh 3rd quarter.

Cal getting shut out at home through three, 23-0.

USC's just looking to get back on the plane and go home now. This whole half is garbage time.

Call it a hunch, but I don't think m2 is going to be right. I still don't think Cal wins this one by a minimum of 14.

Pete obviously never said any such thing. He said it would be in Sanchez's best interests to stay, and that the odds are against a QB coming out early and doing well.

He never flat out said the guy wasn't ready for the NFL.

I suppose, if that's what you want it to say.

I take the guy at his word. The precedent he cited is clear: Early QB entrants into the NFL haven't done well, and Sanchez was particularly inexperienced, having only sixteen college starts. Even most juniors have more experience than that.

Sanchez just may be the exception. Big deal.

Barkley just threw his worst pass of the year, and now the shutout is in jeopardy.

Goddammit, Mgo, this is your fault, for dicking up the karma here. If they lose the shutout - and the serious :bode: that would be against m2 - it's on your head, friend.

Oh, and for the record, just in case m2 tries to say the game was closer than the score...

Time of Possession: USC 36:46 Cal: 23:14

Joe McKnight: 20 -119, with two TDs.

Jahvid Bust: 14-47, with 0 TDs and zero impact in a big game...again. Also, he got ran down by a safety wearing a bulky knee brace, who's only about 80% healthy.

30-3

Since m2 guranteed that Cal would win by a minimum of 14 points he was only off by, oh, a minimum of 41 points.

What will happen first:

The Clippers winning an NBA title?

The Cubs winning a World Series?

Cal winning a big game?

m2 showing back up on this board?

In a truly typical ABC "Regional Coverage" pussy move, they switched to Miami/OU with about 10 minutes left, which was already being shown in 81% of the country.

I was there. It wasn't. :brad:

I sat about 50 feet from the Cal bench next to the student section. That means I sat in the student overflow section so the folks who bought tickets had to intermingle with the students who didn't bother to get there early or on time (i.e. the brothas). For a "statement" game, the Cal bench looked like they could give two shits about the outcome of the game. Lots of socializing and laughs.

I would expect them to wear a bad performance on the sidelines at least a little bit, but I guess they had time to move on considering they rolled over and mailed it in after Riley's intercetpion. Hell, even the crowd knew it. Right after the INT in the end zone on the opening drive, the first thing I heard from the student ghetto was "Fuck. That's ballgame dawg"

They knew it. They've seen it.
Classic! "...Fuck. That's ballgame dawg"

Best stat that I've read this morning: Since Kal scored first by kicking that FG against Oregon, they were outscored 65-0. They ended that by kicking a meaningless, pussy FG while behind 23-0. I assume Tedford did that just to avoid being shutout. Something to build on I guess. :meds:
