The old bat is much better off going out high on morphine."
Rack that, but with one additional medical need to be addressed. I want a shitload of Viagra....enough to get one of those 4 hour boners....and a hot young nurse willing to lock the door for 4 hours and take the top position (assuming I'm too weak to do the work)....THEN, and only then, they can shoot me full of morphine so I can have a painless death and go out with a smile on my face. If that causes my insurance premiums to increase a few bucks between now and then, so be it. Money well spent.

Would you settle for a male nurse?

Thanks for the offer, Marty, but I'll have to pass. I was thinking of someone (female) who actually look good in panties....and even better without them.

As I understand it, it's a panel of Palliative Care case managers who review a patient's record to make a recommendation to the Palliative Care specialist, who advises the patient. You might think this is just adding a layer of bureaucracy, but the positive is that you get a standardized level of care (fewer physician errors) and as a result, a net cost savings. And remember, these are advisory boards. The final determination will still be made by the specialist and patient (or family).

By the way, "case management" has been a standard cost-saving measure in the industry for many years. The only difference is that in the past it's generally been done by one person...usually an RN that specializes in a particular field (but works for the HMO).

The main point here is that the patient and their family make any final decisions. As such, "death panels" is a complete misnomer. The folks tossing this accusation around would presumably have the patients make these important decisions with no outside medical or other advice at all.

Yeah, it's a very new field of medicine, so I can understand a bit of the uneasiness with the topic. But I was really disappointed in the talking heads that ran with the "death panels" farce. There were a lot of legit angles to attack the non-reform bill and they go into spooky fairy tale mode? Sad. And I think the ridiculousness of that attack helped it gain traction.

There is nothing ridiculous about rationed health care and if you think that can't or won't happen here, you're a fucking moron.

And here come the insta-experts... This is why Barry got a reform bill passed with zero reform in it. You tools were too busy screaming about slippery slopes and marginalized yourselves as alarmist kooks. Had Barry been forced to stay on point with just one thing...just repealing the anti-trust exemption...we could have made huge progress. Thanks for nothing, asshat.

Oh, and Newsflash, dipshit...Healthcare has ALWAYS been rationed about 27 different ways. If you haven't figured that out, you don't belong in the conversation.

As opposed to you who got their info from the most trustworthy people on the planet -- the American Gubmint?

Actually, anyone with two brain cells to rub together would realize that once this heinous idea of a boondoggle runs short of cayshe, the "death panel" concept is inevitable.

Dins, I actually live in a frozen, Protestant, Calvinist, Victorian nightmare with socialised health insurance.
I also really, truly, support Death Panels.

Please believe me.. there are no Death Panels. :(

Still bitter about the 40pt comeback?

Rog, healthcare has and will always be rationed. As one example, if two patients need a critical transplant and there's one OR available because the rest are in use, someone's going to be shit out of luck.

Want another? Need an MRI on a knee? Not if the HMO is overbudget in radiology for the fiscal year. They'll deny your referral, "lose" your paperwork and dodge you for a few weeks before finally referring you to six weeks of PT. By the time you're done with that, they'll be in the black again and you can have your MRI with contrast for all they care.

The MRI with the contrast, ...well......it makes your 'perineum' VERY warm. Had to have it done twice, and it felt like my rectum did some tequila shooters with my scrotum. I decided not to let them go out for a date without me. They were in no condition to drive.

To me, a "death panel" defines a group of bureaucrats that are given the authority to make health care rationing policy decisions when there are insufficient resources to provide complete and total healthcare to all, and the end result of such policy decisions is the death of at least one person because they did not receive the healthcare that would have prolonged their life.
So you mean the health care executives and actuaries who will determine rates and coverages based upon the government parameters, and then tailor the policies to cover their ass with profit, while having lots of time to manipulate the government programs ?

So nothing is going to change. Got it.

Simple truths.
You are an idiot. In the world of socialized police if you want a bodyguard or a private eye or a CCTV or a baseball bat or a better lock you pay for it. Same would go for healthcare which is a hell of a lot better than what we have now.
