The GOP's Google dilemma

Post by Screw_Michigan »

Conservatives have a hard time coming to grips with an ever changing reality. It is known. It's in their DNA, hell, it's pretty much implied in their very name. So it is no surprise that they refuse to believe the majority of people are actually against them.

Unfortunately for everyone, this battle with reality is reaching critical mass and spilling on to Google, which has become as important as our standard utilities in today's world. It is supremely important that google remains unbiased and colorblind with regards to its search algorithm.

This battle is now entering dangerous territory. The refusal to believe the negative news being pulled up by google on searches is promoting the idea of censorship for promoting conservative view points. Google's unbiased algorithm doesn't show positive conservative articles much because they aren't out there due to the lack of positive things conservatives do.

To adjust the algorithm in any way to "adjust" more conservative view points to the top of the search results would be censorship plain and simple. This must not be tolerated. And yet the political fervor and GOP support for regulating google into censorship is at an all time high.

Here's a hint for all the conservatives out there: if you want positive conservative search results, do positive things that people like. That's why the elected officials are in Washington - to do the will of the people- and that's where they are failing.

If they were successful at representing the people then the news would be far more positive. Besides, right now somehow you all are acting like communists with your trade regulation and google censorship. Do you really want to be commies? Some how Trump is turning you all into far leftists in all matters except religion.

I watched the clip, this is what he actually said, dipshit.
I would love to be able to regulate content of speech, but the first amend prevents me from doing so. that is the function of first amendment. over long run it is better that gov't can't regulate the content of speech. I would urge these private sector companies to regulate it better themselves. But there is really nothing I believe govt can do and that has been my position all along

The fact that he wishes he could regulate speech ought to bother you. If TGOF said it, you'd be ranting in here non-stop.

But squashing opposing views is pretty much the rule with socialist regimes over the last hundred years or so. And what is going on today with lefties on campuses across the country is further evidence of it.

Speech already is regulated,[/] dumbfuck. I just gave an example of speech regulation that has been upheld by SCOTUS.

And under the same reasons there's stuff that the GOP (especially Trump) that needs to be regulated.

He'll, some of what Trump has said, if it had happened in CA and reulted in an assault, would have been grounds to charge Trump with violating 415 PC.

You mean that horrible SCOTUS decision, that in a rare example, they made a subsequent ruling that overturned it?

“PC” being the operative letters here, seeing that Trump so often hurts the tender feels that liberals are so proud of displaying.

Speech is regulated by the government everyday, and has been since before 1789. Try telling a cop that you are going to shoot her in the face. Try saying the wrong thing in a courtroom.
Is it a good idea to regulate some speech? Not sure how you would have a decent civilization without some regulation, but the more you regulate it the more you can control people so it's a fine line.

At present I think we regulate a little too much speech from actual humans, who should have free speech rights, and not enough from corporations that have no right to exist let alone the right to say whatever the fuck they want to.

Is the part about corporations not having a right to exist a serious opinion of yours, Kierland? I get the literal aspect of what you're saying, but the implementation of that thought quickly degenerates into an anti-business stance, which quickly produces poverty and destitution.

If you get the literal aspect, then what's the problem? Controlling Big Biz leads to prosperity. Letting it run wild does not.

Controlling? No. But setting guardrails up to keep them in their lane, sure. I don’t put much stock in politicians knowing how to run or manage a business, but giving our government the ability to place limits so as to prevent monopolies and the like, yes, I can onboard with that.

You obviously do not live in an area where Waste Management has a complete monopoly on disposal services. They grease the politicians to get the franchises in place, they lobby them to enact all kinds of laws about disposal that increases their revenue streams, and they just ass fuck the consumers, especially the commercial accounts. No competition whatsoever. The government encourages this they don't prevent it.

FTFY

Leaving it to the government to prevent monopolies is like asking Nickelback to salvage the music industry by releasing more albums.

Government-charged economic policy causes monopolies.
