This Board Would Die If...

Post by Smackie Chan »

...posters here followed Dan Crenshaw's advice. I no longer engage in political discussions on this board for EXACTLY the reasons Crenshaw cites. Yeah, I know...this is (allegedly) a smack board, and I admit to enjoying some of the political discourse years ago when mvscal and others would at least be creative in running poli-smack. But these days, it's more like being a kindergarten playground monitor with all the childishness and lack of thought put into posts.

I'm hoping more Republicans and Democrats will heed Crenshaw's advice and start us back down a track of governance that includes more constructive dialog and debate about ideas rather than personal attacks. I'm not optimistic about this (especially under the current administration), but I have seen faint signs from others (like Senator-elect Kyrsten Sinema, who successfully campaigned using across-the-aisle cooperation as her hallmark) that we might be able to move closer to unity than divisiveness. (By the way, for those unfamiliar, Sinema pulled off quite a feat by being a Democrat to win a Senate seat in AZ, by becoming the first female Senator from the state, and for being the first openly bisexual Senator from anywhere.)

RACK Dan Crenshaw!

It’s also generally a good indication that the attacker doesn’t have a solid argument and needs a way to end debate before it has even begun.

Similarly, people too often attack not just an idea but also the supposed intent behind an idea. That raises the emotional level of the debate and might seem like it strengthens the attacker’s side, but it’s a terrible way to make a point. Assuming the worst about your opponents’ intentions has the effect of demonizing their ideas, removing the need for sound counter-reasoning and fact-based argument. That’s not a good environment for the exchange of ideas.

Look at you guys..... Smackie is making a sincere attempt to bring some level of civility and discourse to this board and its discussions and you guys are still cracking on each other and making fun of others takes. I for one am willing to try and be less caustic and judgmental if it will improve our discussions and take away all of this " You suck cock", You are a moron", " You are a racist" blasts that seem to be greater than a rational discussion that hopefully will change the political climate not only on this board, but around this great country as well.

How about it guys ??

My "racist" comment was supposed to be funny. LOL

I'm all for it. Not sure how well it can possibly work out. I guess if I see a post that's based on hearsay, innuendo, complete bullshit, or an obviously biased source (see, that's going to be controversial right there) I'll just grit my teeth and not respond, though it goes against my instinct not to call it out.

I guess there are certain posters who I'll just have to put on "ignore" for the foreseeable future.

She was what she called a "Prada socialist" 10+ years ago, and campaigned for Ralph Nader, sometimes wearing a pink tutu - a visual that was exploited by McSally in her campaign ads against Sinema. However, during her years in elected office - as an AZ State Senator and US House Representative, her voting record has been more centrist. According to Five ThirtyEight, as of November 2018, Sinema voted in line with Trump's position on legislation 62.2% of the time, and according to the Bipartisan Index created by The Lugar Center and the McCourt School of Public Policy, Sinema was the sixth most bipartisan member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the first session of the 115th United States Congress.

If that's evidence of her currently being a socialist, I guess she is.

I'll be happy when calling people Nazis, racists, etc. stops. If you have a valid point on a subject state it and refrain from stooping to name calling. For example, my take on some of the results of this past election is simply that a lot of people either don't care or choose to ignore the booming economy under the current Republican administration. We'll see how things turn out in the next Congressional sessions.

You mean the sugar high economy that's gonna collapse in a few years? Yes, of course, we should ALL be on our knees thanking the Trump administration for slash and burn tax and spending policies that a Democrat administration will again have to clean up after. We've seen this before. Reaganomics.

The U.S. recorded a $100.5 billion budget deficit in October, an increase of about 60 percent from a year earlier, as spending
grew twice as fast as revenue.

The deficit widened from $63.2 billion in the same month last year, the department said in an emailed statement on Tuesday...

This is ridiculous, and no, the economy is not doing well.
It is a farce.

The R's bitch and moan about Barry's deficits for 8 years.
Then they get in power and what do they do?

Refuse to cut spending and run the deficit up even higher.

Amazing the blinders Screwy doesn’t mind wearing every day. Reagan was handed a shit Sandro from nice guy/horrible president, Mr Carter.

The Trump Tax cuts were not slash and burn. They are just correcting the wrongs of previous administrations on both sides. Further you are wrong when you say deficits on matter when D’s are in charge. Government spending should be cut 20% across the board today. Period. Nothing should be spared from Social programs to Defense. Then whole cabinet level departments should be eliminated by the end of 2019. This will put a ton of government union workers and military folks out on the street. So some of that 20% spending cut can go to them for retraining and job assistance for a few years.

Why exactly are you so vehemently opposed to the corporate tax cut?

At my meager company, targeting ~ $70 million annual revenue, we projected the tax savings and accelerated capex spending on updated computer systems and growth i.e. hiring, that otherwise would have went to the IRS.

Because it has been great for my company. Further we are just a normal small business. We tend to save a good amount so we can survive the next down turn. But by lowering the tax we will pay, our plan is to hire another back office person in Feb.

Your anecdotal evidence, as well as the anecdotal evidence of BrokenSeater, is noted. It’s also meaningless.

But to answer your question:
Corporate profits have gone up along with deficits, but wages have stagnated. The secondary effects of putting money in peoples’ pockets who are not rich never happened. It was a money grab we could ill afford.

There is one of the main problems with the liberal mindset. Cash grab? So sad. That isn’t the governments money. Companies and individuals working for those companies earned that money. They government decided they need 35% of the profit. That is the real cash grab. Taking money back from what the government takes isn’t a cash grab.

This statement again supports the fact you are the stupidest motherfucker to ever post here. You wages may have stagnated, but in the trades right now they are going through the roof for decent workers . Even in traditionally low wage service jobs Amazon is paying $ 17 per hour here in the Portland area. We are paying above scale to a journeyman plumber and apprentice. The problem is finding people worth a fuck. We are finding ways to hire the best, pay them the best and mechanize as much as we can.

There are huge numbers of people just hanging out sucking the government tit with no desire to to work. We are having good profits, we are spending money wisely and we are piling up cash in the bank too. The corporate tax breaks on the Federal side are good, but of course the communist government in Oregon finds ways to get more every year.

We could put more money in peoples pockets if they actually wanted to show up and work and get off their mother fucking phones long enough. So as usual your statement is complete horseshit.

When you line one set of peoples pockets and not others that is a grab at money, hence a money grab. It’s pretty simple English.

Another brilliant English blast from the resident kicking can. Your use of the word "tiny" is amusing at best, since you are now using one of the most frequently used words on here to describe you, and trying to turn it around on others as some kind of epic smack. That clearly shows your acceptance of the label. You are truly a moron.
