Why should anyone have to know how to escape a sinking car? If I shot myself in the foot, I shouldn't be expected to sew it back on.

Things that should be on the list but aren’t:

Put the toothpaste back in the tube.
Skate backwards.
Roll a joint.
Buy groceries with a debit card (sup smackaholic?)
Make Hollandaise.
Skin a possum.
Unfuck your best friend’s wife.
Do the backstroke.
Open a beer bottle with your teeth.
Whistle really loud.

I have done 93 things on the list. Most of them regularly.

Of the things I haven't actually done, the only one I have much interest in doing is welding.

One of these days I actual do expect to by myself a cheap welder and play with it. I understand the process well enough that I think I could become adequate at doing it fairly quickly.

Of the rest of the list, I have not actually escaped a rip current or sinking car, but know the technique to do so. Never treated frost bite or hypothermia, but know how to, if it ever occurs. Same for Heimlich. Snake bite, also.

I did learn from this that on your side is the best position for a seizure victim. I was thinking on their back, feet elevated, but that's shock. Laying on your side would be best in the event of vomiting.

One other thing I can do is use the proper spelling of brake, when used to describe a device used to slow a vehicle.

Yes, if nothing better is available. It kinda hurts my dainty fingers though.

I’ve got a friend who’s been opening beers with his teeth since college. It still makes me cringe. He sort of bites down on the edge of the cap with his molars to bend it up. Then it comes right off.

"Smog check"??? Must be some Cali thing. If they taught shop classes like there used to be, it would go a long way to help the newer generations. Anyone else know how to open a beer can (prior to pop tops) using the metal tip on the magazine of a .45? We used to use car bumpers to open bottles.

That was when cars actually had bumpers.

How many of you fukks ever use an old school bumper jack?

Doubt there's anyone under 40 that has ever even seen it done.

I had a navy buddy from the hood in STL. Said he has seen a bumper jack used to kill a man.

I seem to recall using the door lock mechanism as an opener as well. Probably only works on older cars though.

Not only do I know how to do the backstroke, but how to stay on my back through the turns at the wall (none of this pussified turning over on one's stomach to do a turn).

I'm sure that Papa Will can do a smog check. He's always sticking something up his tailpipe....

I only swam back my freshman year. Never did get comfortable enough with a back flip turn to actually try it in a meet. But, I pretty well sucked as a freshman in general. Didn't letter till sophomore year and I was strictly freestyle from there on out. One thing I never could get right was butterfly. Just never could figure out the rhythm of it. I could do a lap off the blocks using the momentum from the start, but looked more like a drowning victim than a butterflier after a turn.

Can you do a backstroke flip turn ending up with a dolphin kick taking you halfway down the pool?

My back turn is more like a sit-n-spin action than a flip. And don't ask me why, but I can't do a fly kick while on my back. I'm fine when I'm on my stomach.

100 fly was actually my event in high school (I wasn't a weakling like 'holic). Lettered all four years.

Is this a joke? This is normal upbringing. Damn. I was born in the city, but raised in the hicks and country, eagle scout and shit, special forces and shit, this is nothing, really hilarious to be honest.

All of them. I probably did 70 to 80 in my long lifetime easily.

For older folks, could add on: how to get into an older locked car using a coat hanger, and best of all: how to hot wire a car.

older cars no problem,

New cars no chance without special gear. You have to have a computer tailored to the car and it is specific to do it and if you have it you can hack the ignition protocol like thieves do nowadays. I am not saying I know it but peeps tell me bout it. I been out of the game for over 20 years so it does not apply to nowadays applications.

Clipping your Achilles’ tendons/heels on the flip turn is the suck. Former WSI here. I was always leery of doing those flip turns by gauging how close you were by the flags overhead at the end of the pool and then dipping your head back underwater to see where the wall was. Ugh. The first time you smack your tendons on the edge of the pool is an experience you don’t want to repeat.

Who knew we had so many swimmers in here. I swam free and fly. Couldn’t move fast at all doing the breaststroke, which meant the IM was out for me. Never knew the sit and spin back turn as we had the normal flip turn when I was a kid. At first you could dolphin kick all the way across the pool underwater if you wanted, but that changed while I was in HS.

As for the list, I have no clue how to weld, bleed brakes, escape a sinking car etc. But doesn’t Holic win all of these online things?

Dago, what was your best 100 fly time?

If you were a strong butterflier, you would have beat my free times. I think to really get good, you had to do it year around. I didn't. My freshman year, we had a kid who was a senior than pwned the entire record board except for breast and back. His older brother had back. He had his own lane for practice as no one else was anywhere near him. He swam competitively year around since grade school. And to look at him, you'd never know it. Maybe 5'9" with a bit of a gut.
