The latest from Rotoworld.
Bears hired Adam Gase as offensive coordinator.
Gase will re-join John Fox after losing out on the 49ers and Broncos' head-coach jobs. Gase has been Fox's OC the last two years and will have total control over the Bears' offense. Gase's hire is good news for Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte. Jeffery will presumably play the high-volume "Demaryius role" in Gase's attack. The Broncos were a top-five offense under Gase the last two seasons. Gase should resurface as a head-coaching candidate next offseason if he can prove he can win without Peyton Manning.
Browns hired John DeFilippo as offensive coordinator.
DeFilippo, 36, is from Youngstown, Ohio. He's never called plays at any level. The Raiders' QBs coach the past three seasons, DeFilippo was praised for his work with Derek Carr this past year, though Carr averaged a league-worst 5.5 YPA to go with an underwhelming 76.6 QB rating. DeFilippo was the Jets' QBs coach in 2009 when Browns coach Mike Pettine was New York's defensive coordinator.

The latest from Rotoworld.
49ers hired TEs coach Eric Mangini as defensive coordinator.
The ex-head coach of the Jets and Browns, Mangini is pulling a Hue Jackson, going from position coach on one side of the ball to coordinator on the other. An overwrought Bill Belichick disciple, Mangini has a 33-47 career record as head coach, but his defensive bonafides have never been questioned. He should be a good defensive boss for Jim Tomsula, and still has a great base of talent to work with even though GM Trent Baalke has done a poor job of restocking the cupboard in recent years. The man formerly known as "Mangenius" is undoubtedly angling for one last shot at being a head coach. This is a nice launching pad.
49ers hired Tony Sparano as tight ends coach.
He's succeeding Eric Mangini, who will likely either be hired as the Raiders or 49ers' defensive coordinator. Sparano's background is mostly in coaching offensive lines, though he did work as a tight ends coach with the Redskins, Jaguars, and Cowboys in the early 2000s. The 49ers need to get more out of Vance McDonald and Derek Carrier. They may cut Vernon Davis.

Per Rotoworld:
Jets named Kacy Rodgers their defensive coordinator.
If the Dolphins were smart, they would've ousted Kevin Coyle and made Rodgers their defensive coordinator. Instead, Rodgers departs to re-team with Todd Bowles. Both are Bill Parcells disciples. One of the top D-Line gurus in football, Rodgers coached up Olivier Vernon, Cam Wake, and Jared Odrick in Miami, while getting career-best years from Randy Starks and Paul Soliai.
Bears hired Dowell Loggains as QB coach.
Loggains is making a lateral move after spending last season as the Browns' QB coach. He also previously served as the Titans' offensive coordinator from 2012-13. Considered one of the better quarterback coaches in the league, Loggains will be tasked with turning around Jay Cutler in Chicago.

Rotoworld's latest.
Colts re-signed Rob Chudzinski to a new contract under the title of associate head coach.
Chudzinski, who served as a "special assistant" to head coach Chuck Pagano in 2014, garnered interest from at least the 49ers and Rams over the last few weeks. It's interesting that he's passing on those offensive coordinator opportunities to stay in a background role with Indy. It's likely a financial promotion coupled with the presence of Andrew Luck (vs. Colin Kaepernick or Sam Bradford) swayed him. Regardless, arguably the top OC candidate that was still available is now off the board. Chud is a talent maximizer that loves to utilize the tight end in the pass game. His return is great news for Luck, Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener and the entire Colts offense that ranked No. 3 in the league.
NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the 49ers are expected to promote QBs coach Geep Chryst to offensive coordinator.
This was expected when the 49ers hired Steve Logan as QBs coach. San Francisco is staying in-house after Rob Chudzinski re-signed with the Colts. Chryst has coached the 49ers' quarterbacks the last four seasons and has limited playcalling experience, but did serve as the Chargers' OC from 1999-2000. It's not an exciting hire for a team that already has an unproven coach in Jim Tomsula. The 49ers' coaching staff has taken a big step back this winter.
Broncos hired Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator.
Everyone except irrational Cowboys fans seems to realize how great a coach and defensive mind Phillips is. This is a fantastic hire for the Broncos, who reunite Gary Kubiak with Phillips after the two teamed to turn the Texans into a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the early 2010s. Phillips runs an aggressive "one-gap" 3-4 defense, which will play to the edge-rushing strengths of Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. Outgoing DC Jack Del Rio essentially refused to blitz in 2014, and ultimately failed to maximize Denver's otherworldly defensive talent.
Good hire for the Broncos.

Last of the coaching hires, Rotoworld's latest.
Falcons signed new HC Dan Quinn to 5-year deal.
Profootballtalk also confirms new Falcons coach Dan Quinn has final say over the 53-man roster.
It's quite a coup for a 44-year-old rookie head coach. Quinn has never been a head coach at any level, and only coordinated NFL defenses for two seasons. While Quinn may have final say, assistant GM Scott Pioli and GM Thomas Dimitroff should do most of the personnel heavy lifting. We doubt Quinn will be in the business of frequently overruling them in 2015.
Seahawks hired Kris Richard as defensive coordinator.
This was the expected move after Dan Quinn's departure to Atlanta. Richard coached up a bevy of late-round picks into elite-level contributors as Seattle's defensive backs coach, and is known as a better in-game coach than Ken Norton Jr., who was allowed to walk to Oakland. If Richard excels with Seattle's talent group, he could end up on the Quinn/Gus Bradley career path.
Raiders hired Ken Norton Jr. as defensive coordinator.
It's a flashy hire for new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, who spent time in the same linebacker group as Norton on the Cowboys in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Norton Jr. spent the last five years coaching linebackers on Pete Carroll's Seahawks staff. He was passed over for Seattle's defensive coordinator vacancy in favor of DBs coach Kris Richard.
Rams promoted QBs coach Frank Cignetti to offensive coordinator.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported the expected promotion on Thursday morning, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has now confirmed it. It's arguably the least-inspiring hire in an offseason full of them. Going on 50, Cignetti has never coordinated an NFL offense, and spent 2008-11 overseeing middling college units at Cal, Pitt and Rutgers. It's an admission of defeat for the Rams, who struck out on a host of bigger-name candidates. With questions swirling around not only the Rams' personnel, but future in St. Louis, it's not an attractive job. "Continuity" could be construed as a positive, but not when you consider how much the Rams' offense has struggled in recent years.

On the bright side Mtool would become a solid Falcon fan.

Papa Willie wrote:Sudden talk of Marshawn following Quinn to ATL. I really don't care to see that. He's 30, he only knows 20 words, and I don't want to see Jackson Part II. Would much rather see CJ Spiller...
C.J. Spiller would make a good backup. He's brittle. And he's fucking cursed. Like this year when Fred Jackson went down with an injury and looked to be on the shelf for a while. On the same drive that Jackson went down, Spiller takes the hand off, rushes for 60+ yards on an explosive run that perfectly illustrated his speed and vision. And when Spiller was tackled at the end of the run? Yea, he suffered a season ending injury. And that's not the only time Spiller has been bit by the injury bug just as he's been ready to take over as lead dog, just the latest. Spiller is like Mush from "A Bronx Tale." Stay VERY far away unless you can get him for chump change as a backup.

BUT. Falcons and bad luck have a tendency to run so hand in hand with each other, that it would probably be a horrific decision. :)
Spiller may have one good year where he actually suits up in all 16 games. He won't have two good years. You just can't give him starter money.
