Re: Unknowns Who Will Star for Your School This Fall
Offense: Dion Sims, TE. I think he's going to have a huge year. Has been limited in the past due to injuries, but he's 100% now. 6'5", 280, runs like a deer and has great hands. Big match-up problem for LBs and DBs alike. Had 171 yards receiving in the last scrimmage. Should be a much needed safety valve for an offense that breaks in a new QB and all new WRs.
Defense: Denicos Allen, LB. Had a solid year last year with 11 sacks, and should continue where he left off. Explosive guy who's all over the field. My favorite highlight from last year:

I guess they're no longer unknown. The whole world knows now.Sudden Sam wrote:Couple guys who you may not know now, but damn sure will before the year's over:
Defense: Adrian Hubbard, LB who will play down at times. Gonna wreck some offenses. Deion Belue may step in and plug a hole in the secondary.
Offense: DeAndrew White, WR One of many wideouts who are gonna see a lot more downfield passes this year as AJ McCarron's torn labrum is repaired and Doug Nussmeier has taken over the offense. Hell, Kenny Bell or Kevin Norwood could be listed here just as well.
But, as far as naming two guys, I'll stick with Hubbard and White.
Who you got?
Re: Unknowns Who Will Star for Your School This Fall
Colt Lyerla, TE, Soph -- Last year, Lyerla was behind veteran David Paulson, and he was limited to 7 catches last year... 5 of them went to the house. Homegrown 5-star is 6'5, rocked out lately... might go 260, is faster than shit, and everyone says has the "soft hands." Fucking beast.
Bralon Addison, WR/Ath (we get to say that after listing DAT as such),TFr -- One of the Texas pulls, they say he's slow, yet still impossible to tackle. The plan was for him to redshirt, and rumor has it the coaches are all like "can't justify that" -- exceeded the scouting report, which was already good. Killin fools.
Dark horse:
Marcus Maiota, Rfr, QB -- Battle going on between 2 overachievers for the starting nod.
I guess Kiko Alonso isn't an unknown after that whole Rose Bowl Defensive MVPthingy. If he stays on the wagon, he'll be a big name this season... hasn't worked for him yet, but seems to be better.

Despite what I might post here, they will still be unknowns to all of you at the end of the season.

WR Dewayne Peace - Been riding the pine for quite some time behind the great trio of Patrick Edwards, Tyrone Carrier, and Justin Johnson. Peace has big play capabilities and now he gets his shot with the departure of the three WRs mentioned above.
RB Charles Sims - could put up Heisman type numbers this season should Houston decide to run a more balanced attack. He accumulated 1400 total yards last season and is now the feature back with Michael Hayes and Bryce Beall gone. He will get a lot of looks as a pass-catching RB and he should get 15-20 carries a game. This will help Piland mature as the starting QB.
LB Derrick Matthews - made the freshman All-Conference team and now takes over duties as the MLB in Houston's new 4-3 scheme. Should have over 100 tackles this season if he plays the entire year. He is very athletic and can get sideline to sideline without any problems.

Announced as the starter.
So I guess starting for a Top 5 team, he'll be a household name by season's end.
Be very afraid, PAC. Way too many stars on this team (and mostly on defense, uncharacteristic for Oregon... although Chad Cota was just inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame).

Offense: Everett Golson, QB. He won't be unknown for much longer, though. He's the newly-anointed starting QB (Rees was suspended for the Navy game and won't be playing in that game at all). By noon on Saturday, he'll either have fallen on his face on national TV, or the Beanos of the world will be proclaiming that he's about to win two Heismans.
Defense: Jamoris Slaughter, S. Actually a fifth-year senior, but someone who never got much publicity. If our secondary isn't picked to shreds, he'll be a major reason why.

Hard for me to tell about Texas since I don't think they have fielded an Div 1 offense for about 2 years now. Hell I don't even now if they even have a QB yet.
Re: Unknowns Who Will Star for Your School This Fall
Devin Gardner, former 5-star QB recruit turned WR. Probably still the backup. Don't know if the move is an indictment of the WR corps or his QB skills. Either way, he's tall and fast and (hopefully) gives us the deep threat we lost when Stonum decided to up the stupid and drive hisself to his parole hearing.

Steve Edmond MLB (S): According to all reports, he is a monster. Dude is 260lbs. of hate. Cannot wait to see him lay some knock out shots across the Big XII
Daje Johnson: RB/WR (TFr): This kid has it all. Speed and can catch.

The kid is a flat out stud. Wish Cal would've gotten him.
At least you stole him away from TCU and that shithole school.

I hear you guys are coming out west in a week and playing Nevada.
You'll be so far west... that you'll be west of LA.
The high desert with its altitude and dry air will be something your boys will not be prepared for coming from sea-level and that moist air.
You should get a good idea how Nevada will be after we play them tomorrow. PAC 12 Network at around 3pm your time tomorrow.

WHOA!
Best passer I think we've had since DSquared.
I'd add Eric Dungy to the list, except he's not "unknown" since he's the son of a famous racist, and he might not elevate his staus until he learns how to catch the ball (maybe he should follow in Dad's footsteps and play DB).

At least in Jamoris' case, the prayers didn't work, apparently. Out for the season, or so I'm told. Is a sixth year in the offing?Van wrote:Jamoris?

Good call on him so far...he's been their best playmaking receiver. Funchess has been a pleasant surprise at TE as well.
Defensively, I've been a big fan of Jake Ryan.
