Elite XC taps out

Post by Shoalzie »

I'm not an MMA hardcore but how many flippin' fighting leagues/organizations does there need to be anyways? It's almost like boxing with all their different belts. I'll watch UFC on Spike and I'll catch the occasional Pride fight on FSN or WEC on Versus. The few Elite XC stuff that I saw was pretty good but nothing mind-blowing. Kimbo is a novelty and the women fights were pretty good.

You can categorize me as the casual MMA fan. I know of the notable fighters and I'm learning more about the competition itself but I don't buy all the pay-per-views and make it appointment watching over hockey, baseball or football. If I'm flipping around, I'll watch it when it's on...it's a much better watch than boxing at this point.

I put MMA in the same group with golf, tennis and soccer...stuff that I follow but I'm not a diehard. If there's a big fight on against a regular season Red Wings game, I'll watch the Wings but I'd rather watch MMA than most of the regular crap that's on TV right now.

Not unexpected. I thought they'd have another two shows or so before they were out but whatever.

Like I said in the other thread about Kimbo losing - they were guaranteed to fail by having all their eggs in the Kimbo and Carano basket. They should have damn well known that Kimbo was a fraud at this stage of the game and that he was going to be exposed as such soon enough. Shame on them. Carano is a legit fighter but she's a woman. If your biggest star as a fight promotion is a chick -- you're destined for failure.

These organizations need to resign themselves to the fact that the UFC is the ONLY top flight MMA fight promotion on the planet. These other orgs need to know their role. They can be successful as a regional promotion and see where it goes from there. Trying to immediately compete on the national stage with the UFC is just plain stupid. The UFC didn't get successful overnight, not sure why the rest seem to think they can. Affliction is the next group of numbnuts that is attempting to go straight at the UFC and will be out of business in six months. Affliction spends money in an even more idiotic manner than EliteXC did. Rumor has it that they paid Fedor $5M for his fight with Tim Sylvia. While Fedor is without question the baddest man on the planet, he is virtually unknown and has no marketing appeal in the USA. He does not sell pay-per-views here. In an effort to try to compete with the UFC, they have way overpaid for their stable of fighters. The UFC can draw 500,000 PPV buys without blockbuster headliners. Affliction had six of the top 10 heavyweights in the world (to include Fedor, Sylvia, Arlovski and Barnett) on one card and sold about 75,000. Shoalzie and Rack Fu* could headline the next UFC card and we could do 250,000 buys. The UFC brand is almost synonymous with MMA in North America.

* Rack Fu by triangle choke in round 1. :D

No man. Wish I would've known it was on the 'dog, I would've watched it for sure.

Queue up the "Zy is a midget so who's the little kid next to him" jokes. For the record, that's Urijah Faber and he would beat the ever lovin' shit out of everyone here without breaking a sweat. Dude is a badass.
