Got a chance to speak to him once and seen him play a bunch of times early on when he was starting out.
You'll never meet a more honest, down to earth, no bullshit musician ever. I was good friends with his first publicist too.
Also his knowledge of early jazz and blues history was fucking phenomenal and he leaned more on the traditional jazz later in his career. Good guy, sorely missed.
