Is there a Scenario with LSU Finishing 3rd in the SEC?

Post by See You Next Wednesday »

The only reason I ask is because if that happened then it is possible that LSU would play Michigan in the Outback Bowl and with all the Les Miles to Michigan speculation that would make for a very interesting event.

It wouldn't be ruled out with a playoff system though. That's what makes having it so exciting. Think of the possibilities!

michigan would make the playoffs in your world?

and even if there were a playoff, the chances of them playing each other in the first round would be slim, which would add an element of if lsu beats _______ and michigan beats ________ then they'll play. the regular season already gave us that: if lsu finishes #1 or 2 and michigan does the same then...

Not this season, no. I'm just saying that anything can happen in a playoff scenario (as long as you are one of the teams that made the draw). That is a lot more exciting and appealing to me rather than everybody keep bitching about the BCS and who has the better conference, etc...

the 32 sounds more realistic, though doesn't this belong in a different forum...

Seemed appropriate, especially with the focus of the discussion on UM and playoffs.

Just an update from today's Baton Rouge paper...FWIW
Where will LSU likely go if it loses to Tennessee?
Probably the Cotton. The Capital One will likely invite Florida, while the Outback will probably take Auburn.

Who would LSU play in those games?
The Tigers would likely meet the Big 12 Championship Game loser in the Cotton Bowl (Oklahoma or Missouri), Wisconsin or Michigan in the Outback and Illinois or Michigan in the Capital One. With all the Les Miles to Michigan reports, playing the Wolverines could make for one of the bowl season’s most compelling story lines.

if LSU and Missouri both lose their CCG's you could see the two teams that were in 1st in the two BCS polls just before the final BCS poll not making BCS bowls at all

That's why losses are bad late in the season.
