another PS2 to the internet question...

Post by Moby Dick »

alright, i'm trying to connect my PS2 to the internet (Cable)

i currently have Cox cable (not for sure if any Oklahomans with the same can help me out).

i use the USB port to my computer for the cable internet..but i have to use the ethernet cable to my PS2...i DONT need to sign in to be connected ..all i do is turn my computer on and bam, i'm online...but on my PS2 when i go to test connection, it tells me it times out...
here are the steps i go thru to try to set up my connection on the PS2

Select hardware:
SCE/Ethernet (network adaptor)

Are a user ID and password required?
Not Required

Set the IP address automatically?
Auto

Set the DNS server address automaticaly?
Auto

We are about to test your network connection. Make sure your cables are connected properly.
"okay"

starting connection............
(red screen) "the connection attempt has timed out. Return to setup."

what am i doing wrong here?

i unplugged the USB cord from the cable modem to the computer..and have only the Ethernet cable running from it to the PS2.

any help would be grand.

TIA

You have both the computer and PS2 hooked up, one through the USB port and the other by ethernet at the same time?

Won't work that way. You could alternate I suppose and disconnect your computer from the Cable Modem and then it should work.

You need to go out and buy a router like a newer linksys or d-link, one that states that it supports console online gaming (ps2/xbox) and then hook both your PS2 and PC into the router with Ethernet.

Is it possible that your ISP does require a logon/pw, but your ISP software logs on automatically, so you take it for granted?

Could just be a compatibility issue. Might have to use a router in between. what is your cable modem's model. I might have some time this weekend to waste and might be able to look into it. Alternatively, you can probably browse some PS2 forums for some hints when other users hit the same problems you are having.

Alternatively, someone could donate a PS2 and I will do some personal research as soon as it gets here.

I have Cox cable. Here's how I connect my ps2:

Cable out to modem>modem ethernet cable to ps2 network adapter

Is this how you have it set up?
