Sin,
Oregon
What would you know about the second largest State in the Union and the amazing geography that it encompasses?

It was just a veiled joke about the Katrina's.

Oh, and the city of Houston has a larger population than Oregon yet we still have the largest National Park next to Denali in the nation.

Google the images of Big Bend or the Davis Mountains or anything other your ignorant view of something you've never seen.

I, on the other hand, think Oregon is amazingly beautiful State and would love to visit sometime.

all I know is you're all welcome in Texas unlike another certain massive group of refugees that simply refuse to leave until they've robbed every liquor store in town.

It depends on who you listen to.

A couple of hours ago they interviewed one of the CDF guys and he said he couldn't expect the evacuation to be lifted in the "forseeable future". Other reports say that they are working on a re-entry plan for as early as tonight or tomorrow. They have also announced a center for people who have lost their homes at the Community Center to open tomorrow morning. I've heard that they expect complete containment by Sunday.

I just heard on the news that the front of the fire is at Stone Creek Road, which is actually in De Luz and west of Temecula, which is good news for us.

A major wind shift, though, could fuck things up completely.

We're still getting smoke from the fire on Palomar Mountain.

All my friends down in the Fallbrook area are safe, and didn't lose their homes. My house is covered with ash. Holy shit, it'll take a week to clean this mess up, but I didn't lose anything.

Props to you, Mikey for sticking it out, and for the updates. Sorry about the beer shortage.

Thanks for the virtual brewski, Bushy. I heard that the evacuation may be lifted tomorrow morning.

Shit, I guess I'll have to go to work. Will unload the truck and start the cleanup on Saturday I guess. Ashes cover everything. What we really need is a good hard rain.

Is there any place, any way, any thing we can do about the horrific media coverage of the fire?

Seriously. the best reporter I had all week was Mikey.

I was traveling this week, and the in and out of area media coverage of the fires on TV was "get a gun and shoot the TV readers" level of awful. I was in so cal, cen cal, and the bay area. The media suck level in all of those areas was so bad that close up shots of the woks in iron chef episodes of schezuan cooking were more accurate descriptions of what was happening in So cal than the shit the local and national media spewed.

And can someone tell the networks that I don't give an AIDS infested fuck what happens to the fucking moronic rich assholes who live in Malibu?

Every 2 years those stupid shits get run by mud or flame, and people act surprised, like it NEVER happened before.

I want a "FUCK YOU, MALIBU" Channel NOW. I want to see their misery, in a comedy format, on a daily basis. I want to see their homes burn, slide, collapse, and I wanna see the media trip over themselves trying to get the tears, the nipple shot, the mansion collapsing on video, with some of them dying in the attempt. I want the aftermath interview to include questions like

" You were smart enough to make millions in TV or movies, why were you stupid enough to live in Malibu when the place gets ass raped by nature every 3 or 4 years?"

and,

"How do your children feel that their expensive toys were all destroyed? Will your inadequacies as parents make up for all that, or can we count on them to fill the news gap in the future with DUIs and drug arrests when they become teenagers?"

and

"Now that your house has been destroyed by fire, what will be your next big event? can we count on suicide, overdose, drug abuse, drunk driving, spousal abuse, or do you have an even bigger surprise in mind?

At least make it interesting. If Jessica Alba is not nip slipping or heading for a starring role in a porno flick, an emotional breakdown over her mansion burning in Malibu is ranked #3, because those tits DO NOT quit, and the sobbing will get the jiggle on big time.

~inhale

We've got firemen on the front lines who put their lives on the line for people they will never meet and on TV I have to put up with a young Asian reporter interviewer some taco sucker about how he had to spend 2 hours in traffic to get to the stadium with his wife and kids and that his 2 year old is not happy, and they were all scared because the flames were close you know, and um we were like scared and we don't know if our cousin is ok or nothin but we'll make do and hope our house is ok.

FUUUUCCKK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These mindless interviewer TV people who ask 12 year olds if "they were scared" or "how did you feel when you knew your toys were burning" or ask adult Mexicalis who speak mexglish how they felt when they were told to evacuate should be duct taped to a steel post in the middle of a fire zone with a microphone so they can ask the flames the same questions. Lets get THAT on video.

Everybody I know wanted to know what the fuck was actually happening in the fire zones where the fires were, not the boring repetitive s.a.p. stories from the standbys in front of Qualcomm.

Hell. They'd get more emotion out of Charger fans after Norv fucked up another game than they would ever get out of someone who got four days off, a newly built house at government disaster rates, and a bucket of free meals.

Fucking shit ass local TV station management, CNN and every other local national affiliate that thought personal boring stories of individuals who are displaced mean shit when millions are affected, those fuckers needs to burn like the fire they sucked ass reporting on.

Done.

Bushie,

I get occasional good info from the local TV for breaking news. The best sources seem to be radio stations that have listeners calling in (usually a.m.) and some of the local papers. Here's a link to an ongoing North County Times page that has both citizens and reporters sending in updates. It has had probably the most timely info that I can find. If you look through there you can probably find my rant from last night -- when I look back at it now it's maybe a little too Smack Chat-ish

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/10 ... ogcomments

When I turn on any of the national coverage they often don't even get the information right, like Fallbrook being threatened by the Witch fire. Mostly they send the celebrity talking heads to a burned out house and do some "up close and personal" shit. Then they show a couple minutes of Ahhnold.

This site has links to some other info sources as well...

http://www.211sandiego.org/

This is the SD County emergency page...

http://sdcountyemergency.com/

We're seriously thinking of moving out to a hotel if we can find one. Not because of any fire danger but because they refuse to open the roads into town. I can't go to work and get back home if I leave. There are still a lot of people here, and there are at least two grocery stores and two gas stations open downtown...between us and the Rice Canyon fire which is at least 5 miles away. They're opening an "assistance center" today. What good is that if nobody can get back into town?

Sorry about your misfortune.
Mike wrote on Oct 24, 2007 2:51 PM:

" Seven Oaks Ignored During Evacuation! When the fires were moving through Rancho Bernardo early Monday morning, we watched TV and checked the web frequently to see if we were to evacuate. We live in the far north end of Seven Oaks - just south of Rancho Bernardo Road. We were surrounded by thick black smoke so we couldn't see where the fire might be. Both of us are in wheelchairs, so we wanted plenty of advance notice. First they evacuated "northeast RB" - the section north of Rancho Bernardo Road. Then they evacuated most of the north part of the city. The mayor announced that the area was bounded by I-5 on the west, 56 on the south and I-15 on the east. That did not include Seven Oaks. So we stayed put. Visibility got worse and worse, big ashes falling from the sky. Then police cruisers started driving up and down our street announcing that we should evacuate immediately. We did. There has never been an official announcement that our portion of RB should evacuate. As a result, there may never be an official announcement to let us return. Does anyone know what's going on? "

One bad thing i've noticed about these reporter in the field, it seems they are getting their directions mixed up about 75% of the time. You'll see some jackass saying that the fire behind them is to the northwest, no dumbass, you are facing northwest. Can't they at least give these fools a fricking boy scout compass or something.

Chargerfan, i'm about 3/4 mile southeast of Swamii's, I was just out cruising around the other evening trying to get some cool sunset pics.
