aojcobd.exe

Post by Jack »

I have the Downloader-KL virus on my computer and it keeps coming back..

It downloads a program called aojcobd.exe. I believe it tries to SPAM me and take over my computer.. I haven't noticed much effect, except a slight slower speed (not that slow).

CAN anyone help or recommend?

anyways, I go to the task manager, go to processes and alphabetize to find aojcobd.exe

I delete the tree and do a virus check.

(If I didn't delete, McAfee finds the Downloader-KL in aojcobd.exe and states it can't be removed... because it is running).

So I delete the tree. Do a Virus Check and it gets found and deleted.

Next, The thing is gone. The computer gets slightly faster.

But the next day. It's back.

I have XP Home with 5 users (family).

I know one of my sons (teenagers) are going somewhere

but how can I block this completely.

I am firewalled, through XP. I have the latest McAfee, Spyware Doctor and Panicware Pop up Blocker.

Two things. Run virus detection in Safe Mode. This will stop the virus from loading into memory so its easier to remove it from your computer.
To get into safe mode, reboot your computer. When its done checking your hardware (first 2 screens usually or the big dell/gateway/etc logo) and switches to booting into XP (has a progress bar in the bottom of the screen) hit F8 once or twice. It should bring up a boot menu, where you can choose 'Safe Mode' or 'Safe mode with networking" and a whole other modes.
Choose the safe mode. I should mention that you should update your virus definitions and spyware definitions before going into safemode and running your spyware/adware/virus checker.

Also for more information check out these sites:

According to McAfee, block this site if you can: static.callinghome.biz

Here is the registry key it adds and that you should remove:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Vendor\XML

And here is how you turn off system restore on XP, which you should do before you do anything else (and then re-enable it once you've cleaned the system.

Good luck.

first thing,McAfee is pure garbage!
that's why you have a virus to begin with.
hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and see if you see aojcobd.exe runing in processes.
if so kill it and then delete.
disable system restore and try to del in Safe Mode.
when you're done clowning with that piece of crap McAfee, download AVG:

it's free and it works:)
