I could honestly give a shit. I never thought the US was as good as ESPN and SI were making them out to be. We wont be a national power in soccer as long as our best athletes choose baseball, football, basketball and track first. I dont blame them. Soccer sucks.

I'm truly not all that big on grammar smack, considering I catch myself in violation frequently, but THIS is one of my ultimate pet peeves.

It's I could NOT give a shit. If you could give a shit, that means you care. Think about it dipshit.

Soccer is only for dork kids who aren't stud enough for tennis.

It's very gay.

When the slide tackle is introduced in tennis, I'll consider your argument.

Seriously.

I do prefer to play/watch the sport of tennis over soccer, but I don't see the arguments for it being less gay. Those soccer hooligans are some tough mothers with the ability to muster more endurance in a 3 hour span than I could in a lifetime.

I'll be serious too.

Soccer is a tough sport, but being a top-notch tennis player is a MUCH more demanding task than being a top-notch soccer player.

the vast majority of people in this country could care less regardless of how much the US Soccer federation or whatever the fuck they're called hype it and try and sell this swill to the American public......

and the World Soccer Federation, or whatever the fuck they're called giving the US team some trumped up seeding in an effort to get Americans to watch it won't work either......

it's fucking soccer......

I'm not sure what you're basing "demanding task" on.

Soccer is more demanding physically by far, but tennis probably requires more all-around skill, and mental toughness.

I think it takes a lot more mental toughness to watch soccer than tennis.

I was thinking about this some, and you may very well be right. They're both physically strenuous in different ways, it just seems as though soccer might be moreso considering they cover so much more territory, and stoppage in the game is not nearly as frequent as it is in tennis.

I've never played either at an organized level. Perhaps someone here who has played both, in high school perhaps, can expound on this.

Soccer requires a high degree of cardiovascular endurance, but a soccer player can 'coast' fairly often when the ball is in play.

The cardiovascular requirements of tennis are also great, and a player can not coast at all when the ball is in play.

No way, no how.

He's got to go balls out at all times or he'll get his ass handed to him in a hurry.

And don't look to the bench if you start to suck wind.

Nobody is coming in to save your ass.

Nevah evah.

Mgo,

The 1998 World Cup final drew a 5.7% TV rating in the US.

The 2002 final “improved” to 2.5%.

Amazing.

Apples to oranges.

The 2002 final (Korea) started at 8am east coast time IIRC. The '98 final (France) started in the afternoon ET and late morning PT.

game 1 for the US in 2006 had a rating of 2.3.

Soccer will never matter in this sport because Americas best athletes dont play soccer, the captain wouldnt be 5-8 and a 143 ponds if the US actually gave a shit about soccer.

Would the captain have breasts as large as those on the female in your avatar?

Catch-22, and no.

As this thread has demonstrated.

Soccer and tennis might be demanding from a cardio perspective. But soccer players and tennis players were never the badasses in school.
