Call your shot, maggots! Rose Bowl predictions...

Post by Van »

Time to put up or shut up.

USC 52
Texas 34

(Texas scores some cosmetic points well after the outcome is no longer in doubt to make the final score look half way respectable.)

There then ensues scattered reports of Mack Brown effigy hanging parties by Longhorn Nation...

Jim Gray will hardly be able to restrain himself until the final gun goes off. Screaming across the filed in a blur of grey polyester blend, he'll tackle Reggie near USC's band and then he'll pull the long stemmed rose from Reggie's piehole and breathlessly ask him the inevitable stupid question: "Reggie, now that you've conquered Texas, have you decided yet to become a Houston Texan next year?????"

"What the f...Who the fuck are you?? Get outta my face! ~Reggie spots the tv cameras~ Ummm, I just want to enjoy this moment with my fellas right now. All I know is I'm gonna go pull some mouseketeer tail at DISNEYLAND!!!"

Just out of spite, Gene Chizik waits until the interview is over and then he runs up and tackles Reggie from behind. He just had to know that such a thing could be accomplished by someone wearing burnt orange...

Matt Leinart waits for his interview with Jim Gray...

"You guys wanna story about me, involving bitches, and slapping? Here's a real one!"

Slap!!, and a bewildered Jim Gray tumbles to the turf...

Traveler XXXVII insouciantly strides over and mounts Bevo. In response, as befits a true Longhorn on this day, Bevo just snorts and wriggles while gleefully offering up the charade of resistance...

What I think will be seen:

USC - 45
UT - 17

Van, do we have a sig bet on the game? I seem to recall some talk about it several weeks ago, but can't remember if we actually formalized it. It's up to you.

Did you spend much time waffling about the scenario that leads to a 2 point OT win? That's one hell of a fumble for a safety. The next time I see the team that has the first possession go for 2, will be the first.

This game looks really close on paper. I'll bet the Longhorns wish that the field of the Sacred Ground of the New Year was covered in green paper for the game, since paper is the only place this one is close.

Considering you have to go for two starting with the 3rd OT, it's pretty easy to see how you would win by 2. Brush up on the rules.

D'OH!

I missed the "3OT" part...just saw OT. My bad. And since I even quoted the "3OT" part, it's my double-secret bad.

In which case, the 2 point scenario becomes more likely, eh?

After being down 35-0 at halftime... Texas wins 49-45:

USC blocks a potential game tying field goal on the last play of the game... a Texas player picks up the ball behind the line of scrimmage and runs it in for a TD.

Greatest game ever.

If this actually occurs I will take a leave of absence from my job, catch a plane to Wolverine Nation, hunt you down and stab you in the neck with a shard from a rusty stripper's pole.

A triple O.T. loss in the Rose Bowl bookending our last loss 35 games ago (in triple O.T. to Cal) would just be too hard to take.

I'd have to blame you.

USC isn't comprised of a bunch of overconfident, overbearing thugs. (That'd be us fans, actually.)

Actually, according to VY, it's Texas who has the gangstas. USC? They're the dilligent, forthright pretty boys, remember?

In terms of personalities I see Texas as being Miami and USC as being OSU...

This game is the typical media/fan mistake. They pump up the greatness of this year's team without bothering to stop and realize that last year's team was better. USC's defense has given up double digits in every single game this year, including 42 to Fresno State. Texas just seems to be the better rounded team this time. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm calling

The only analysis that matters is this game

Texas is 64-0 when they out rush their opponent
USC is 1-3 under Carroll when facing duel-threat QBs.
Vince is the greatest duel-threat QB ever.

Good thing then that USC is going to outrush Texas.
USC is 1-3 under Carroll when facing duel-threat QBs.
Huh??

They've lost one game in three seasons, and that was three years ago in triple O.T., to Aaron Rodgers and Cal. They lost that one during Leinart's first season at the helm and they lost it on the road, as a result of shitty kicking.

Last I checked, Rodgers wasn't a dual threat QB.

Four years ago they lost two games and both of those were also on the road and the result of placekicking miscues.

Man, you're reaching.
Vince is the greatest duel-threat QB ever.
Great. While we're at let it be known that France boasts the greatest Gallic military of the 21st century.

Whats next? Jewish sports heroes?

Then again, if VY is going to challenge us to a couple duels, hey, he is the "gangsta" so maybe he'll get the drop on us...

Vito, exactly how old are you anyway??

Kellen Clemens was like #3 in all of D1 in total offense when he got hurt. Plenty'o'rushing yards. That must have been the 1 win, I guess.

Dude, this is America. Whatever happened THIS year is ALWAYS the superlative "biggest/best/greatest" ever.

Hell, all of a sudden, Katrina became the "biggest natural disaster in US history!"

The Asian Tsunami of a year ago is the "biggest natural disaster in HUMAN history"...nevermind that China has had many, many, many worse ones...but they didn't happen in the last year, so there's no way they can be the "biggest ever."

And to annoint VY as the all-time best of anything...he didn't even win the best player award for this year...do the math.

Take a look at what Vince did this year against Mizz!
Since taking over as the starter he has 2 losses, hell brad had that many in his first 6 games as a starter. You can talk all you want about his passing last year but this ain't last year and his improvement to the point that he leads the nation in passing efficiency is as remarkable as anything I have ever seen. At this point in his career there has never been a QB that can both run and pass like him. Not Tommie Frazier, Jamal Holloway, Steve McNair, Donavan McNabb, or anyone. The closest guy is actually Steve Young who is a better passer, but is no where near the runner.

USC will find out soon enough
