I bought a horse last night!

Not as deep of a pull as you might think. Der Bingle was a founding director of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club when the track was built in 1936. He had a large estate in Rancho Santa Fe a few miles east of there. They’ve been using that as their theme song ever since. It doesn’t have the cachet or history of the triple crown tracks but there’s a lot of tradition there (at least for California). And there’s no track with a nicer setting.

I grew up about 1.5 miles worth of there. I only went there a couple of times, and one of those times I went just to see a post-races concert by David Benoit.
