Name that tune...

Post by Mikey »

...in one note.

How many songs can you name in ONE note? I'm not looking for two or three note bullshit, but songs you can name from the first note of the recording?
(It could be a single note, or an opening chord)

I'll start with two that are probably, to most here, a little obscure. But I've had recordings of both since I was 10 or 11 years old.

I was listening to Sirius XM this morning when "Baby, Scratch My Back" by Slim Harpo came on. I heard that first harmonica note and I absolutely knew the song. This was on a collection put out by our local AM radio station way back in 1967. KFRC's 21 Golden Rocks. This got me thinking about the subject of the thread.

Beatles 65, Surfin' USA and Shutdown Vol II were the first LPs I ever bought. "I Feel Fine" was on Beatles 65. If you know this song, the first note is pretty obvious.

I can prolly come up with a few dozen more, and I'll add to this list at some point.

Anybody else? I'm sure everybody has their own list. I think there may be a lot of Beatles songs that I could name.

Now that I've considered this for a few more minutes, I could probably identify most of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.

Sounds like sonar pings of someone trying to find their truck in Cinders garage. Where the hell is Marty anyway.

OK, now I know where that's coming from when I try to go to sleep. I though maybe I was having some tinnitus. I was going to ask Pikkkle about that before he "left".

Seriously?

As Dinsdale was fond of saying,
one more time for the slow people:

any tard who this they are the same is an iodiot

do a search of the board for that exact wording. It's a Kierland classic, from his battle with Mike the Lab Rat. I repurposed it.

That lil formulation also used to be under the T1B logo, where "Sordid Clambake' is now.

Great choices, Roach.

I'm not so familiar with Prince, unfortunately. If I heard just the first note of Purple Rain I might get it mixed up with Hard Day's Night.

Great choices Phibes. Yes, a little obscure, but I think that’s really what I was going for here. Everyone has a song or a few that have been with them for years, but that most of the rest of us wouldn’t recognize so quickly. We all have different experiences.
