Weekend Roll Call 11-5-22

2 of my faves just killing it. Sure would like to find a better copy of this though.

Apologies if this is glass dick, but if so it still needs to be talked about more.
The absolute craziest shit I have even seen in a race. LOVE IT!

Huge game in Athens today. I plan to catch the 2nd half for sure, and hopefully the
whole game ... but gotta knock out that grill biz first.

Chiefs and Tits on Sunday. Andy Ried flat out sucks against them.
2-8 overall. Hopefully it's 3-8 by late Sunday.

Powerball mania- 1.6 bill is predicted- a new record. Take the cash payout,
you are left w/ about $473 million—before paying any state and local taxes.
Got my ticket- one can dream a little.

I am firing up the smoke tomorrow for a couple racks of ribs,
and also to do a few chuck roasts for my first big pot of chili
this Fall. Here's a ham I made recently. Right after I pulled
out the bone, but just before glazed it.

I think that ham stops just short of requiring the (!) tags!

This big cold front had us go from summer-like to blustery and chilly in less than a day. Sucks for those who got hit by the tornadoes down south. One was reported on Table Rock Lake. Thankfully no snow; got about an inch of rain overnight.

Wife's working all weekend, not much else going on.

Thanks for bringing up Ross Chastain's ride along the barrier. Earlier this week I wondered aloud if that much damage justifies finishing 4th. How much money does that earn you vs how much did it cost? Does a car owner sign off on that move? After asking the question I got called a Nazi again, natch.

Hey punch bowl pooper. And there was a reason he needed to move up two spots. You are so stupid you can’t get anything right.

A-basin opened this week so just getting back from two days skiing at 10,000 ft+. Freezing rain in Vail so good day for jacuzzi. Got the winning powerball on the fridge. Walking down to the river later. Probably around halftime of the big game. BBQ later then date at some swank restaurant.

Made my usual Saturday morning trip to the flatlands to the farmers market and Costco. Watching the WS while I have an experimental meatloaf in the oven. Turkey, eggplant, wild mushrooms, onion, celery, tomatoes, Italian seasoning, eggs, and a few other things. I think there’s at least as much veggie in this as turkey, and hopeful that it will be awesome. Could also be inedible, though I would be surprised. It may need more salt, but that’s pretty easy to fix.

I've done all the calculations.

After taxes, and adjusting for projected inflation, the winner will take home about $12,000.

The experimental turkey/eggplant meatloaf came out even better than expected. Very flavorful and an almost fluffy texture.

I may have left it under the broiler for a half minute too long but no real harm done.

Maybe fluffy was the wrong word.

🤪

There was plenty of mass to it, but not soggy or greasy at all and lighter than your typical beef/pork meatloaf. I’m trying to find healthier ways to eat by cutting down on red meat and upping my intake of plant based foods. If you ever get a diagnosis of the dreaded PC you’ll know where I’m coming from.

The only fat in this is about a tablespoon of EVOO and whatever was in the ground turkey. It was seriously good and definitely a keeper. But keep on stuffing your face with red meat if that’s your thing. You only live once.

Yeah, I luv red meat. And it’s always natural.

Beware that processed stuff. Do you know how much fat they threw in that grind?

So, you presume he read the label.

And you’re here to answer for Mickey. Okay.

I know how labeling works. I also know how sausage is made. Interesting that you trust what “they” tell you.

I’ve had a lifelong thing with red meat too. But trying to cut back for my own (and Mrs Mikey’s) good. Sort of a special occasion thing now mostly.

And I do read labels. All organic and nothing added to this product. That’s kind of the point of this whole exercise, to come up with good tasting and satisfying alternatives to some of the shit we’ve been stuffing ourselves with for decades. She wants me to give up wine too, or at least cut back drastically. Not happening.

Here’s something I made last week. Totally vegan, except for the colatura. Besides the beans and leeks I used carrots, celery, romanesco and broccoli. Served with some crusty whole grain sourdough it was one of the tastiest meals I’ve created. Never used colatura before and at first it made the entire house smell like old fish, but it was a pretty small amount and in the end it was what added an amazing umami to the dish.

I have the Asian version of colatura and my family hates the smell of it cooking. Smells like piss and old fish. But hot dang it makes some good sauces, soups, and meats. Try adding some to whatever pork chop marinade you use.

Not quite. I prefer to process most of my food.

I do not milk my dairy. I do not do my own vinification. But prefer to do as much as is practical for me.

Eggplant is very versatile but I never imagined it with shrimp. How did it come out?

One of the vendors at our local farmers market on Saturday had a huge pile of Japanese (small, dark color) and Chinese (small, lighter purple) selling 3 for $5.00. So I bought bunch to use in the meatloaf, not even realizing that it’s pretty traditional in Italian meatloaf recipes.
