Quinn signs two-year deal

Pat Quinn will remain at the helm of the Blue and White.

Sportsnet.ca -- Despite the lockout, the Toronto Maple Leafs have loosened their purse strings to ensure their head coach isn't going anywhere.

Sportsnet has learned the Toronto Maple Leafs and veteran coach Pat Quinn have agreed to terms on what sources say is a two-year deal. Monetary terms have not been released.

Quinn has been the coach of the Maple Leafs since the 1998-99 season and has brought the team to the Conference Finals twice, but have never made it to the finals. The Leafs haven't missed the playoffs once in Quinn's coaching tenure and have only once been bounced in the first round.

Quinn won the Olympic gold medal in Salt Lake City, Utah as head coach of the Canadian Men's Ice Hockey team and led the Canadian Men's team to a tournament win in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.

Quinn has won the Jack Adams Award for coach of the year twice, once in 1979-80 as coach of the Flyers and again in the 1991-92 season as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.

Great, I guess it will two years before Stajan, Wellewood, Coliacovo, Ling, and other young Leaf prospects see more than one minute of ice time with the big club.

But Antropov and Berg will still get regular shifts. :x :x
