My first new car,1963 Dodge Dart GT 2 door hard top. Had the 225 cubic inch engine with the push button Tourquflite transmission. Basically an indestructible power train with a NASCAR rear axle of 3.45:1. Torsion bar suspension (which was awesome) even the hood and truck lids had torsion bars and not springs. MoPar should have kept using them. First night I bought it I took it out on a straight stretch of NY 37 outside of Ondensburg NY to see what it could do. I got up to 115 MPH, still had pedal, but did not trust Detroit all that much. Accumulated a. couple speeding tickets. One was classic. Going home east on NY 23 after an afternoon grad school class in Oneonta NY. Cruising long, good road, no traffic, see the lights flashing in my rear view---NY State trooper. He comes over and says they were just taking down the radar trap when they heard me coming and by the sound of my tires they knew I was going fast. He. said he wasn't sure how fast I was going (probably about 85) but he ticketed me for 80. He even asked me about my power train saying I was really torquing out. One night on the same road going back home from a night grad school class, I fell asleep and totaled my car. Put a hole in the windshield with my head---resulting in 42 stitches to sew me up in the ER. Would buy another one if I saw one today. Great car.

I learned to drive in a Plymouth Belvedere. '67 I think, and I think it was the 318. Sort of a light tan color, nothing unusual or flashy about it. It looked like a mom's car.

It took me a while to realize that not all cars would burn rubber if you were too heavy on the accelerator. Her next car (a Pinto wagon) sure wouldn't.

My favorite car was probably the '82 Celica liftback that was the first I ever bought new. That car was a gas to drive, but I unsuccessfully tried to knock a tree down with it.

My favorite car to drive, that I actually own is the OL’s 04 BMW 325ci convertible.

Not the fastest thing as it has the little 6, but damn, it is a fun car on a twisty road. They do live up to the ultimate driving machine nic.

Best car is likely my current work whip. ‘11 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. 6 speed, extremely comfy and nearly as fun as the Beemer. Routinely gets 42-45 mpg.

Next favorite is prolly the OL’s Honda Odyssey minivan.

Anyone who doesn’t drive a minivan, because minivans are for dorks, is the worst kind of dork.

Very nice to drive and a killer road trip machine. Can be transformed into a very comfy RV as well.

Worst car- my first. 1974 Mustang II.

I was sold on the “Mach 1” badges. What a fukking POS. Had the solid lifter V-6. Absolute garbage car.

And every time that seat warmer warms me up in the winter I realize it is a work of art. I'm starting to look at new rides because the Pilot is pushing 200k, might just get another.

Any clean 69 Camaro likely brings better than 20K today.

An SS, real, not a fake one, is likely well north of 50K.

By far the most fun vehicle I ever owned. Totally impractical. Terrible mileage. My wife hated it. My kids loved it. Lots of good memories, but cost me a fortune in depreciation.

A Hummer could easily make a person’s best and worst list....at the same time.

I think this actually was my favorite car. Mine was a '69 but looked just like this.

Black Marquis, four door, 429 cu 7.0L V8.

It's coming. We all get the visit sooner or later. Mine was brought on by stupid ladder tricks about a decade ago. And my heated fake leather chair in my Nazimobile is awesome. I use it year round. I regularly use the heated seat and AC simultaneously. A little lower back heat is much appreciated by my back.

Don't forget the heated steering wheel. One of the best automobile inventions ever.

Nope. I do use the a/c seat thing all the time.

Living in Houston, I imagine you would use every last bit of AC technology available. I couldn't imagine living there without it.

I have heated seats in my Kona EV. I don't need to heat my car too often here in LoCal but, when I do, I only use the seat heater. I've found that it's actually more effective than blowing hot air around in the interior, and a lot more efficient in a battery powered vehicle.

Heating the air drains the battery in an EV more quickly than just heating the seats. In an ICE vehicle the heater doesn't affect the mileage because it's basically using waste heat that would otherwise go out the exhaust pipe or the radiator.

Drove from Avon to A Basin to do some skiing today and used it pretty much the whole way.

Apparently. There were a good number of Tesla’s around Denver that ran out of juice this Feb in the big snow storm. Running the heater and temps in the single digits are range killers.

Your memory serves you well. I bought my Super Duty when it was new in 1999. Finally donated it a couple of years ago. F250 Crew Cab, V10 4x4. It was great for hauling our Troop's trailer around and camping when my boy was in the Scouts. But it sort of lost a lot of its utility as a commuter when gas prices went from $0.80 to $4.00. I didn't use it much for the last 10 years except for excursions to pick up hardware and building supplies. I finally realized that for a lot less than the cost of smogging, registering and insuring it I could rent a truck from Home Depot as many times as I could possibly use it.

We did have it loaded up for evacuation a couple of times but have come to the conclusion that the most valuable stuff we have can fit into our two remaining vehicles, or it's too big to take with us anyway.

My current "greenie weenie" car (Hyundai Kona EV) is actually more fun to drive than anything I've owned before. A small crossover, it's got a 200 HP electric motor that puts out something like 280 lb-ft of torque, with all of it available from 0 RPM. The little thing basically hauls butt. Not like a Model S, I'm sure, but the only thing that keeps it back are the tires that will break loose if you punch it in "Sport" mode. Plus, I don't buy any gas and the 'lectricity it uses is almost free. Maintenance is rotate the tires every 5K miles and change the cabin air filter at 10K. Nothing else, except for a couple of recalls. I have to take it in later this year for a free battery replacement so it won't spontaneously combust while sitting in my driveway.

I knew the Kona was a first generation BEV when I leased it. That's one reason why I opted for the three year lease. I was 95% sure that in three years there would be lots more electric options available. If I really liked it I could buy it out but I could also walk away with no worries. The lease is up in about 13 months.

Right now I'm leaning towards a new Hyundai Ioniq 5, which should be available in the USA later this year. Definitely a newer generation EV, built from the ground up on chassis designed for EVs (the Kona EV is built on same chassis as the conventional Kona). A lot of cool innovations in this one, including V2L (vehicle to load - you can run 120V stuff off the battery) and possibly V2H (vehicle to house - you can run your house off of it and charge directly from PV). And the dual motor version ups the total HP to over 300.
