Someone on the radio was talking about this yesterday. He said that they basically said the Soviets won the war. We were just along for the ride. Of course it didn't dwell on the fact that the Soviets were willing partners to that other Socialist power, until it turned on them.
The truth is that without the US, Britain is neutralized and the Nazis able to put all their efforts into the eastern front would eventually take the Russkies, especially if those Russkies aren't driving their troops around in Studebaker deuce and a halfs. How much Nazi war materiel doesn't get produced because the factory was hit by a B-17/24?
If the Russkies never get in, at some point, Britain taps out and Germany controls Europe.
The bottom line here is that the US and the Soviets were invaluable.
