What part of it do you want to know what I would do? Prior to the incident? After the fact?

Lot's of unknowns here. A decent number of reports are saying that a bird strike or ice could be to blame. The ice makes more sense to me given the near 90 degree angle of the jet to the runway. But if ice was an issue that tower should have let the pilots know prior to the landing. A bird strike could cause a tire to blow and that would effect braking but it doesn't seem all that likely given the plane was almost out of runway and the angle it went over the bank.

No doubt the folks in the pointy end were shitting their pants as this happened. But props to Boeing that everyone walked away.

Just heard that the right engine was thought to be accelerating at the time the plane left the runway. This would certainly explain the left turn and also the reason the engine detached from the wing.

Prolly had to lay off mechanics due to artificial minimum wages increase.

Probably need to check the 7th fetzer valve.

Could be a bypass line problem.

A guy I used to work with worked in and out of the aviation tech field and he told me it was notoriously underpaid, considering their responsibility and the consequences of someone fukking up.

40K might be decent money in parts of Texas, but it ain't much elsewhere. A licensed HVAC guy or electrician can do a lot better.

Well in high tax CT, who knows. But $40 to start a career is pretty solid. The airline mechanics are all union anywho so who knows what that does for their wages.

Ya, trim that bitch up real quick as you go thru the engine shutdown checklist. Then the right seat declares and emergency and then offer up a few prayers. You don’t want the whole engine to come off the mount as that would totally be the suck.

I bet the autopilot still was able to control this bird. But I sure as hell would do a bit of hand flying to get a sense of handling before we were on final.

From what I saw both people in the plane and the child in the SUV were all killed. The driver of the SUV survived.

Not sure what the cause is here, but if you pause the video you can see that the plane hits right wing first and the landing gear is still in the up position. Far too often private pilots think only of making it back to an airport. In this case it might have been a good idea to put that plane down on the street. And yes the landing gear adds more drag, but when you are close to the ground, use them and try to land on something rather than trying to make it back to an airport.

Based on the video, it appears that they did land on something. That didn’t work out so well for them though.

Wonder if the impact killed them or they barbequed to deaf. Fusealage looks like it stayed pretty much in one piece.

I get that the image of someone trying to open the door scares the hell out of most. Sadly most of the people are completely uninformed. Simple physics says no one is opening a door at altitude. Almost all pax entry doors open outward. Watch a door being opened or closed the next time you fly. The door acts as a plug and the higher pressure inside the plane makes it impossible to pull open inward. Depending on the interior pressure there is upwards of 1100lbs/sqft on the door. I don’t care how strong someone might be, they aren’t overcoming 26000+ pounds of pressure.

So next time maybe the pilots should just tell everyone to sit down buckle up and put everything away as if the plane were landing. Then a couple of quick control column movements and the guy yanking on the door handle will get tossed around a bit and then the flight attendants and some passengers can restrain the idiot.

Bottom line is they aren’t opening the door at altitude.
