my achey breaky heart

After bouts of really bad fatigue, even with the simplest of tasks, I finally capitulated and made an appointment to see a doctor this past Monday. After seeing my EEG they shipped me to the emergency room at Lee Memorial Health Park for observation. On Wednesday I had an echocardiogram that gave them all a further look. Thursday I had heart catheterization and they were able to see my problems up close and ugly. They wanted to do open heart surgery on Friday, but by this time I needed a break to wrap my head around what was happening.
I came home yesterday and am under home health care for now till my operation scheduled for this Thursday. Looks like I hit a trifecta. I have an 80% blockage in my #! coronary artery, and problems with both my aortic valve and mitral valve. If you remember your high school biology, you have some idea of what is what. The surgery should fix all 3 issues with a bypass, valve replacement, and another procedure.
Hope to be back home a week after the operation. Wish me luck. :)

Must be some real quacks for doctors....conservatives don't have a heart.

Hope the surgery goes well for you with a quick recovery, 02. You're not ready for the dumpater just yet.

This is terrible news...

Must have been a shocker to hear that - definitely a wake up. Hope you come back in better shape than ever.

Thoughts and prayers from the 'Seater household.

The valve issues rarely have anything to do with diet or exercise or weight. I have had two family members who have had mitral value prolapse. Both had the valves repaired rather than replaced. I would suggest going for the valve repair over the artificial valve, if your Dr thinks it appropriate.

Give someone you trust your set of house keys to this place and have them give us an update. Or better yet sweet talk a nurse into posting something here for you.

Again, best of luck.

Good luck, Wolfie. When the nurse comes in to insert your catheter, just as she lifts your gown, say, "Now you're going to feel a little prick."

Good luck.
...er, you're going to feel like crap after the surgery! The youngster thing comes about 2-3 months later or so I'm told. I was in the hospital for 3 days last week. Same deal, echo, computerized tomography, cardiac catheterization, nuclear scan...came out clean on all fronts. The ole ticker still going strong with no blockage. The Doc said he thought it had something to do with the Chargers blowing a big lead late and losing to Arizona...STRESS!
Very best to you Wolfie, thoughts and prayers on the way.

With any luck he will be unconscious for that procedure.

I wasn't either. Mine happened post surgical and can best be described as a scene left on the cutting room floor of Misery. The nurse even bore a resemblance to Kathy Bates.

I felt no pain. Undoubtedly due to my excessive girth. Or perhaps it was because I was already hooked up to some quality IV drugs (knee replacement).

My dad had a quadruple bypass when he was about Wolfie's age. 12 years later, he's still going strong.
