Predictions

Wasssssup sports fans! Been a while since I posted here. I've been puttin in a ton of hours at the ol "salt mine" and fishing on the weekends. Life is good.

I don't want to wish my summer away but I'm soooooooooooooo jacked for college football to start! I did one of these predictions last year and wasn't sure if one of you guys would do this thread again and i couldn't find the other one so i thought I would create this new one, I hope that is cool.

I expect big BIG things this year from the University of Michigan. Tons of guys back on offense and defense and we got some serious freshman studs coming in. Also we lured Doug Nussmeier away from Alabama to fix our offense, so you KNOW that guy is good. Alabama is a great proggram I just think the Michigan brand is so strong and its a lot of guys dreams come true to coach here. Just saying.

Anyway without further ado:

vs Appalachian St W 63-10
@ Notre Dame W 24-21
vs Miami OH W 42 - 13
vs Utah W 55 - 20
vs Minnesota W 42-12
@ Rutgers W 52-19
vs Penn St W 30-17
@ Sparty W 41-17
vs Indiana W 72-28
@ Northwestern W 38-0
vs Maryland W 27-3
@ Ohio W 38-24

BIg Ten CCG:

vs Nebraska W 27-6

Playoff:

2) Michigan over 3) Oregon
1) Alabama over 4) Oklahoma

Natty:
1) Alabama over 2) Michigan

As you can see I like the University of Michigan going all the way til the Natty where Bama beats us in a razor sharp close game. I just want you guys to know that is not a homer pick, we have the studs on both sides of the ball. Gardner will be a monster weapon this year and Funchess is the best hybride WR/TE in the country. We have teh best secondary in the country too and maybe linebackers.

Looking forward to reading yours. GO BLUE!!!

I bet Chad Henne is itchin' his balls to see UM get their revenge... on Appy State.

Dunno about that. Coaching, and the unquantifiable "winning tradition" thing might have something to do with it...

I submit for your consideration:

Kal puts 9-10 guys in the NFL every freaking year. And they managed to pull a FBS 0-fer in the last couple of years.

But then again, Kal is an exceptional case of ineptitude, and carries the jinx of a certain carnie. Pray he doesn't start rooting for LSU.

Michigan doesn't even have the best talent in the state of Michigan. They might have the best talent in Washtenaw County. Maybe.

Over/under for Michigan wins (excluding bowls and CCGs) is 7.5.

No one is over 10.5, but a full 3 less than that doesn't seem too rosy.

Wins (8): Appalachian State, Miami (Ohio), Utah, Minnesota, @ Rutgers, Penn State, Indiana, Maryland
Losses (4): @ Notre Dame, @ Michigan State, @ Northwestern, @ Ohio State

Toughest games are on the road (sans Rutgers)...could be an ugly season if they lose any at home.

There sure is a lot of love for a team breaking in a new QB and with a young secondary and new MLB calling the D. Not sure I feel as confident about making the playoff as a lot of prognosticators do.

That said...Roll fuckin' Tide.

DD, come on, man, what's wrong with Bama winning?
Purely from living about 40 minutes north of the epicenter that is Tuscaloosa. The fans would make it pure hell to listen to anything on the radio back in the 90's. Every win was a sign from God that Bama was the annointed program of world and every loss was a sign of the apocalypse. I'm sure I would feel the same if I lived close to Gainesville or Baton Rouge about those respective colleges.

I could be over-thinking it, but I think that's a huge trap game. Night game, on the road, right after emotional games vs UM and OSU. Plus I also don't think Maryland will be "pathetic." They had a ton of injuries last year, and actually have a bit of talent coming back.

If they're no longer "same old Sparty"...that's not a game they lose. I'd worry more about the game at Happy Valley than the Maryland game.

The schedule works out well for them having a week off between the Michigan and Ohio State games. They very well could run the table in conference.

yeah, i saw that too.

i don't like OU at TCU the week before Texas after a bye week. somehow, that seems trappy. also, at Tech. stupid stuff happens in Lubbock. but, if you are a legit title contender, those are games you win.

i'm still not sure what to make of OU's last two wins over Ok State and Bama. having watched both games a couple times now in the offseason. be interesting to see what happens the first few times the Trevor Knight Explosion goes a few 3 and outs and can't run the ball a lick as it's been for a long time. i'd say to me OU is more a legit top 15 type team until i see more....i like mikey stoops D and the OL has depth.

not sure how to think about CU either, lot of unproven sort of maybe talent. as bad as CU has been, hard to argue that losing upperclassmen is real troubling. i do like mike mcintyre....he's the kind of guy they should have hired the last two times. i still can't believe the embree hire and the way CU fans went for it. gruesome stuff.

I'm still uncertain of what I will see from USF this season. Still a young team with a couple of nice recruiting classes, so it can't be any worse than last season.

8/30 - Western Carolina W
9/6 - Maryland L
9/13 - NC State - W
9/19 - UConn - W
9/27 - @Wisconsin - L
10/11 - East Carolina - L
10/18 - @Tulsa - W
10/24 - @ Cincinnati - L
11/1 - Houston - W
11/15 - @SMU - L
11/22 - @Memphis - W
11/28 - UCF - W

If we can someone pull that 7-5 out I will be thoroughly impressed.

I won't drink as much this year . . . Mostly because I just don't drink as much but otherwise because I don't expect us to play like shit as often or have a quarterback that makes me want to punch kittens like the last half decade.

Sat, Aug 30 Texas vs North Texas W
Sat, Sept 6 Texas vs BYU W
Sat, Sept 13 Texas vs UCLA L
Sat, Sept 27 Texas@ Kansas W
Sat, Oct 4 Texas vs Baylor L
Sat, Oct 11 Texas vs Oklahoma L
Sat, Oct 18 Texas vs Iowa State W
Sat, Oct 25 Texas @ Kansas State W
Sat, Nov 1 Texas @ Texas Tech W
Sat, Nov 8 Texas vs West Virginia W
Sat, Nov 15 Texas @ Oklahoma State W
Thu, Nov 27 Texas vs TCU W

I see 9-3 and 7-2 in conference with losses to Baylor and Oklahoma. Our defense will be solid if not one of the best in the Big XII. We will struggle on offense because of ??? at WR and QB. The line will be average to good. We have a stable of RB's. Still don't have a TE. The biggest question for Texas is QB and if Ash can stay healthy. If he stays healthy and the young WR's play up to their potential.... we could end up 10-2. I just don't see us beating UCLA and OU. We could beat Baylor and lose to Tech or OSU.

I think we wind up in the Cotton Bowl or Holiday Bowl.

All in all, a solid year from a young offensive team and I like the direction the team is headed under Charlie Strong.

USC has some very good bodies, but not quite enough. I see them losing a game that no one saw coming. But the "soft" (by PAC standards) schedule might propel USC to the South title.

Man, I'm so long outta the loop about what's going on in Tuscaloosa.

What age group do you fall into? Just outta college? 30s and small kids? 40s and losing hope? 50s and still looking for a keg?

I definitely suggest you try Archibald's BBQ in Northport, just across the river from T-town. Dreamland is great, but Archibald's is freakin' unreal.

Anywhere along the main strip should be fun as far as bars. It'll be one long party Friday night...the length of the main street. And, if past experience holds true, there will be much respect for the Aggie fans. Maybe not on the level that Oklahoma fans were accorded back in 2001 (?), but something akin to that.
We fall into the 40's and 50's category. I have been to Dreamland....great ribs. We are playing golf on Friday. I will tell them about Archibald's. As for aggy respect.....could care less. 2 of the 7 are aggys. I will be cheering for the Tide to Roll the aggys on their way to a 6-6 finish in the SEC and back to where they belong.....in the middle. Good luck this season Sam.....y'all should be in the final 4....and thanks for the info.

Sudden Sam wrote:What's your take on your new coach? Are Texas folks excited? Scared? Unsure?

If you go to Archibald's, let me know your take on the atmosphere and the food.
I for one really like Charlie Strong. The first thing he did was set down rules to get rid of the malcontents. 9 players are gone and I say good riddence. He is making players responsible for their actions and holding them to a standard. This is something that Mack stopped doing. It was a country club and the inmates ran the asylum. Not the case now. They are expected to go to class and act like adults.

I think Texas lacked toughness. I like what he's done in that aspect. Their is no coddeling. There is no media bullshit. Charlie is upfront and a no nonsense type of coach. I think we will be better organized and better prepared. I like his hires on both sides of the ball. I think the defense will be way ahead of the offense. If David Ash can manage the game and not get hurt...we could compete for the Big XII. I say in 2016.....they will be compteting for a MNC.

I think most people are excited about what he brings. There is a faction of retarded Texas fans that wanted Saban. It was never going to happen. Some feel like we "settled" for Charlie Strong. I don't. I think he is a good coach who will do great things on the 40 acres.

I think Strong is a great coach. Strong deserves a lot of the credit for Urban's success at Florida. He also had Louisville...Louisville on the fast track to becoming a top tier program.

Houston has a really good shot at one of the New Year's Six bids. The defense lost a couple of good corners but returned everyone else. They led all of FBS in forcing turnovers last year (43) and have two ball hawking safeties returning and potential 2nd Team All-American ILB Derrick Matthews running the point on that front seven. I think the defense will continue it's surprising dominance.

As for the offense, I wasn't a big fan Doug Meacham's offense. The Cougars after a big read-option run play from the gun would go for a big gain, they would quick snap the same play on the very next play. It had little to no success. Meacham did this throughout the entire season and never really adjusted to running a different quick snap play. I liked the idea, but after it had very little success through the first four weeks of the season, he should have holstered it and went with something different. Also, he did not run a lot of slants and didn't work the middle of the field with the passing game enough. It's not entirely his fault the offense was lacking. The receivers were young and the QB was a true frosh. Most of the group is back and should be better than last year.

The schedule is pretty soft. They do have to travel to BYU and they have Cincy on the road at the end of the season, but other than those two games everything else should be a win.

10-2

Conference Champion

UCLA has toughest schedule in D-I this year, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. 5 of top 6 are Pac-12 teams

That said, this could be the year. Need to keep bodies healthy and hope for one of the RB's to stand out.

Well that index isn't worth a second of anyone's time if it has UCLA as the toughest schedule.

Texas, Kal and Colorado alone make it no where near the toughest.

Edit:

Plus, they have Virginia and Memphis on the non conference schedule as well. Those two combined for 1 conference win last season, and 5 total wins between them.

This season is the chance of a lifetime for Wisky. No tOSU. No MSU. No UM. No PSU. If they were to actually find a way to beat LSU, they could run the table. That is one mediocre schedule.

And no Braxton Miller in the CCG.
