That's a really good question. I suggest you ask Ohio's Republican Secretary of State and Florida's Republican Governor.

Or maybe just read a few newspapers.

The voter ID thing is not nearly as much of a problem as reducing access to the polls, making people wait for hours in line and closing polls before everybody has voted.

Nothing to see here..
A Pennsylvania judge is issuing an order to reinstate Republican election officials across Philadelphia who allegedly were ejected or refused entry by on-site Democratic voting chief judges, GOP officials tell Fox News.
One Republican official claimed that "just under 70" Republican election officials were blocked from Philadelphia polling sites Tuesday morning by Democrats on site. One of them, the official claimed, "was shoved out of the polling place."
"For this many inspectors to be ejected from polling places is rare, even for Philadelphia," the official told FoxNews.com.
Further, one polling site in Philadelphia apparently had a mural of President Obama emblazoned on the wall directly behind the voting machines. The mural, at a local school being used as a polling site, contained the words "change!" and "hope," along with a quote from the president.
Republicans were drawing attention to the image Tuesday morning, with one Mitt Romney spokesman tweeting: "Voters in Philly's Ward 35 are being forced to cast their ballots next to this."
Pennsylvania election law states "no person within a polling place may electioneer or solicit votes for any political party, political body, or candidate, nor may any unauthorized written or printed materials be posted within the polling place."
Elsewhere in the city, a representative from the New Black Panther Party was also spotted outside a polling site. The New Black Panthers stirred controversy in 2008 when members appeared outside a polling site, one of them holding a billy club. The representative seen Tuesday morning was not armed.
The flap over the election judges, though, was widespread. Republicans claim they are obtaining a series of court orders to seat the so-called election "inspectors," and sheriff's deputies will be available to escort them.
Despite the high number of officials who were allegedly booted, the dispute itself is not uncommon for Philadelphia. Fred Voigt, legal counsel for the city commissioners, said these kinds of face-offs happen "with regularity" in the City of Brotherly Love.
"It happens all the time," Voigt said. He said court-appointed Republican officials typically show up on Election Day and end up squaring off against stand-in officials at the polling sites filling in the open seats. Part of the problem, he said, is that the Republican inspectors are appointed on relatively short notice, leading to a string of confrontations on Election Day.
"There are no cool heads here," Voigt said.
The on-site election officials are responsible for verifying the identity of voters, and monitoring for signs of fraud or disenfranchisement.

You misinterpreted my post. And I'm not Smackie. Although I would not be ashamed to be Smackie.

Re-reading my post, I can see how it may have come across as vague. I think ID should be presented. I was saying that I prefer that every voter be identified as voting legally. ID should not be a problem for anyone. I'd like to feel somewhat certain that voting results are accurate.
Yes, I did Sam. It read to me as though you thought a person saying he was who he was, was good enough.

Oregon election worker fired for altering ballots to Republican straight ticket

An election worker in Oregon is facing a criminal investigation for allegedly altering multiple ballots to benefit Republican candidates.

In a press release on Monday, Clackamas County spokesperson Tim Heider said that 55-year-old Deanna Swenson had been “relieved of duty immediately after the alleged ballot tampering was discovered.”

Swenson, who was registered as a Republican, was accused of filling in a Republican straight ticket on ballots where voters did not specify a choice.

Contacted by Willamette Week, Swenson tearfully insisted that it was “only the two” ballots that had been altered.

The Oregon Department of Justice began an investigation last week after an elections official reportedly observed ballots being altered.

“At this point, it is unclear how many ballots the employee at issue had access to, or what will be done with those ballots,” the sheriff’s office said on Monday.

At a Monday emergency meeting, officials in Clackamas County announced that the altered ballots would not be counted. Since ballots were anonymous, disenfranchised voters would not be given a chance to re-cast their votes.

Swenson has worked in elections since at least 2000, according to the Clackamas County spokesperson.

Blue Oregon’s Kari Chisholm reported that the Oregon City woman’s Facebook page indicated she “liked” various conservative personalities, candidates and organizations including the Republican National Committee, The Tea Party, Paul Ryan VP, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), Ann Romney and Fox News.

If convicted of a Class C felony for ballot tampering, Swenson could face five years in prison and a fine of up to $125,000.
According to the "no ID needed" crowd, there is no voter fraud.

While tampering with ballots is pretty bad...

she altered two, in a horribly corrupt county.

And the reason she was even able to bust out a pen and do that has something to do with a democrat secratary of state, for some odd reason, shorting Clackalacky election overseers...

Truth: That is bullshit. The law is the law. Democrats have known for months and months when the early voting period begins and ends, by law. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't get their low-information, lazy, procrastinating base to the polls in the 8 fucking days of early voting, the very existence of which is a sop to Democrats in the first instance, and are now shitting their britches because one or two of their dumbshits might be inconvenienced by reason of their own procrastination. So what do Democrats do when they cannot get their people to the polls within the 8 days set aside to do so by law? They claim the Republicans are suppressing the vote by not ignoring the law for them.

Got anything else? Or is the Republican's refusal to ignore the state's election laws the only alleged case of voter suppression you can put your finger on today?
Sure, it's the law. The Republican legislature changed the law last year to effectively cut the voting period in half. People were voting on the appointed days and experiencing hours of waiting time because of the crowds. In one case their cars were being towed because there were not enough places to park.

You really think that early voting is a "sop to the Democrats?" You don't think that it's done to make voting easier for everybody and reduce the cost of having everyone vote in person on one day?

Your bullshit and sarcasm are noted. There's no way to convince you that all of these problems aren't completely a result of lazy Democrats. There was absolutely no intention in either the legislature's action or the Governor's refusal to extend the early voting to keep people from casting their votes. So be it. You really are as dumb as a sack of bricks.

So MrsO and I go out early this morning to vote. Normally in and out and off to breakfast. We get to our polling place around 7 AM and find ourselves at the end of a line of about 50 people or so a head of us outside. We finally get inside (Fort Myers Elks Lodge #1228 serving as our polling place) and see a line inside of maybe 30 people. Finally get to the first step--voter ID. Yes in Florida we show a photo ID to vote and the voter person even gives a cursory look at my signature. We are handed our four long pages of ballots (both sides) and wait in another line of maybe20 people to get to a voting cubicle. Both of us are armed with our sample ballots which we filled out ahead of time. This is particularly useful with the 12 amendment/initiatives that we must decide on, written also in Spanish of course. After filling out our real ballots we find ourselves in yet another line of maybe 100 people Queued up to feed our paper ballots into the sole machine for that purpose. Yes----only one FUCKING machine to read and store our votes. One FUCKING machine !! Having worked piece work in a factory I am attuned to thinking about how long it takes to do a task. I time the process of feeding four long sheets of paper to take from about 15 seconds for a trouble free feed to well over a minute with a couple of jams/back ups from feeding the paper too fast. With around 100 people ahead of me, I'm thinking an hour for me to get my turn at feeding the ONE FUCKING MACHINE. Finally I get there all eager to do mine in 15 seconds when I'm so eager I push the one fucking machine too hard and it jams up and has to be reset.
Finally off to breakfast with MrsO after 2 HOURS !! On the way out I tell her, next general/presidential election I'm telling the voting people that I plan on being out of state and I'm getting myself an absentee ballot !!
End of rant, there will be a short quiz on all of this tomorrow.

And of course the same Secretary of State was in that elections office on the morning news this morning expressing her extreme outrage that this could have happened and that she will get to the bottom of it, and punish the scoundrels involved. The SAME Demoratic Secretary of State in a completely fucking liberal Demoratically controlled state who failed to garner ANY endorsements at all from some of the most liberal, pussy bleeding newspapers in the ENTIRE fucking state.

The fix is in.
