Cardinals/ Phillies

Nice job by the Cardinals to come back against Lee and the Phillies. Credit to LaRussa for getting inside Jerry Meals' head because the strike zone seemed to reverse for both teams later in the game. The strike-out of Utley in the 5th was a dreadful call.

Game 3 is is where the starting pitching depth of the Phillies will come in to play.

It is the first time in postseason history a pinch-hitter has had three or more RBIs, accounting for all of his team’s runs. Only one pinch-hitter had two RBIs, accounting for all of his team’s runs: Kansas City’s Dane Iorg against the Cardinals in Game 6 of the 1985 World Series. That’s otherwise known as the “Don Denkinger Game.”

Francisco hit because Cardinals manager Tony La Russa intentionally walked Carlos Ruiz to face him. Since 2000, there have been five lead-changing postseason home runs following an intentional walk.

La Russa has been victim of three of them:

San Francisco’s Benito Santiago in Game 4 of the 2002 NLCS. He intentionally walked Barry Bonds.
Houston’s Jeff Kent in Game 5 of the 2004 NLCS. He intentionally walked Lance Berkman.
Francisco in Game 2 of the 2011 NLDS. He intentionally walked Ruiz.

Most overrated manager in history.

They only got in because the Phillies swept the Braves in the final regular season series.

So if the Phillies only won 2 of 3, they would have NO CHANCE of being in game 5 against the same team? I don't recall the 314 and the ATL having a play-in game, do you?

Furthermore, do games 160-162 count more, less, or the same as games 1-159? Why do you despise simple math and logic so much?

The Cardinals won their final game against the Astros before the Phillies/Braves game was over which happened to go extra innings. Had the Braves won, there would have been a 1 game playoff and the fate of both teams left to that game. But the Braves were swept and the end result was the Braves finishing with 1 less win than the Cardinals.

So my statement was correct.

In the standings each game has the same weight but you know as well as I do that no team plays all 162 games with the same level of energy or sense of urgency. How naive of you to think otherwise.

It was patently wrong and you admitted as much in your post. Yes or No. If the Braves won their 162nd game and were NOT swept, the Cardinals still could have made the playoffs. Here, I'll answer for you; The answer is Yes. Therefore, you are incorrect.

When did we start talking about how the games are played, specifically, the urgency in which one team plays? Naive of me to think otherwise?? Motherfucker, show me a link where I even intimated anything closely resembling what in the fuck you are talking about. My point soley related to a game's weight in the standings. Period. End of sentence. I never mentioned anything about how a team goes about playing a particular game.

They only got in because the Phillies swept the Braves in the final regular season series
and the Phillies only got in because they spent 170 million. we going to continue to deal in hypotheticals?

Phils get bounced early. Iggles miss the playoffs. Flyers get bounced in the first round.

He pitched a pretty good game. Shame on their offense for not being able to muster at least 1 run.
