The championship trophy is named after two coaches, one of whom conceivably could win the championship trophy, and who achieved his greatest coaching success outside the Big Ten.

Ponderous. Simply ponderous.

I almost feel sorry for the Big Ten right about now. "Almost" being the key word in that last sentence.

This is terrible.
Like most things people will create a fuss over it for a couple days, then won't give a shit. Seriously, does anybody really care about the name of an award? Or that a G looks like a 0? Division names, logos, none of this matters. The bottom line is they brought in their 12th team, a good one at that, split the divisions, aligned them competently, and will play a ccg. That's really all that matters.

If they wanted a crappy new logo, I'm pretty sure that I (or anyone else in here, for that matter) could have designed an equally crappy logo, doubtless for quite a bit less than they paid for the one they got.

Good. Maybe he'll go with "East" and "West," like he should have from the beginning.
Papa Willie wrote:Seriously - why doesn't the Big 10 just call itself the Big 12, and have the Big 12 (which was the Big 8 ) change it's name to the Big 10? Will the Pac10 remain the same? You would have figured the dumbasses way back when would have figured out that there might one day be a chance of expansion.
From what I've heard, the Pac-10 will call itself the Pac-12. I can remember when it was the Pac-8.

I like the idea of the Big 10 and Big XII swapping names, but I seriously doubt it'll happen. I think both conferences are concerned about the confusion that will generate among the casual fan. Fwiw, from what I've read, the Big Ten was known as the Big Nine from 1899 to 1916 (even though it only had eight members from 1908 to 1911), went to the Big Ten from 1917 to 1946, then back to the Big Nine again after Chicago de-emphasized athletics, until Michigan State joined in 1949.

I think North/South would work better based on the alignment. But, either one would really be fine. No need to over-complicate this shit.
