Fuck Cancer

Post by indyfrisco »

11 days ago my wife's uncle passed from cancer. His wife is in ICU and has already signed the DNR papers. Within 2 weeks, their 4 children aged 21-32 will have lost both parents to cancer. Both at 59 years. Wish this disease on no one and count your many blessings. I have written one sizeable check for cancer research. I am getting ready to write another one. This just fucking sucks.

Get involved with your local Relay for Life organizations. They raise more than anyone else for the ACS. They are also very involved in numerous other ways. Money is awesome but there is plenty that RFL helps out with that most have no clue about it... just some friendly advice.

I'm sorry for your wife's loss and yours, Indy.

Lost my dad (well technically stepdad- but he was always my father figure) to liver cancer at the age of 53 in October. It is just mind blowing how fast that shit eats away at you. From diagnosis to death was nine months or so- considering he never had any health problems prior, it was just a shock. To compound things, he was laid off a few months prior (and lost his health insurance) and was just working side jobs for cash due to a very poor job market in Northern Wisconsin. Between the illness and bills, 2009 has been a bitch and I can't wait for the calendar to turn.

Thankfully he was feeling pretty good late this summer and I got to take him to one last Packer game. It was only a preseason game (the warm temps made it possible to go), but I have never been so excited to go to a game in my life.

Sadly, it seems like everybody you talk to has a horrid cancer story. Hopefully someday that will change. Like SunCoast i donate to RFL, as our local chapter was very helpful to us in the past year.

Indy- very sad story. Losing one is bad enough, but both parents back to back is just heartbreaking.

I lost my aunt to leukemia a few months ago. She was perhaps the most spiritual women I have ever known and was the embodiment of someone who put others before herself. She did so much good for so many people, me included.

And cancer took her from my family way way too soon.

Hang in there Indy.

My Uncle, my fathers brother just recently got diagnosed with colon cancer that spread to his liver. They thought it was liver failure due to his excessive beers drinking and his liver grew 4 times the size of the normal liver. After visiting a "real" doc, they found the problem, and gave him 3 months to live without chemo, maybe 6 months with the chemo. We're an extremely close family, and he lives one block from my dad so this is really hard to deal with. My granny, his mother, turns 90 on January the 3rd, and she's already showing bad signs even though she is the most spunky, loves to live life person I have ever met. We've kinda kept her in the dark about how serious her sons situation is, and it sucks. Her oldest son died at 50 of a heart attack back in the early 90's, her husband, my PaPa, died from Parkinsons which was just horrible to see, and now her second oldest son is about to die of cancer. Everyone in our family seems to croak around the holidays.

My pops is the only one left. He's promised me he gets checked for everything every year and I believe him. I have no idea what I'd do if one of my parents died before me, thoughts of suicide would probably creep in, we're that close.

Thoughts and prayers, bro. It's all we can do.

She passed on Dec 26th. It has eaten her up so bad they are having a closed casket. If anything could die of cancer, I wish it was cancer.

some sad shit in this thread. i'll add to it. i've got an uncle with leukemia and they thought the bone marrow transplant had turned the tide, but he's struggling again. doesn't look good.

me and unc had some good times when i was a kid and he was a kind of the wild child in the family....worked as a dealer in Reno in the early 70's, rode motorcycles, bought a used vintage Porsche 911 inna day and cruised the nation, was really (really) into Cream and had the long hair and such--some awesome pics of him with the uber-porn stache and wearing some killer suede suits (before he became a banker). he used to babysit me. great guy.
