Comerica Park PET

Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

Woke up this morning and decided I'd like to go to the ballgame. Tigers vs Yankees. Here are some pics. Grab yourself a man's beer with some motherfucking alcohol content, or a Piss Light - whichever you prefer, and settle in.

Image
The exit from 94 heading into downtown - Trumball Ave - A legendary street name, notable because that's where old Tiger Stadium can be found. In the background there is the football stadium for Wayne State University.

Image
The drive on Woodward Ave heading toward downtown and the stadium.

Image
The Fox Theatre

Image
Here's the Garden Bowl, America's oldest active bowling alley, and recent inductee into the National Register of Historic Places. Upstairs is the Magic Stick, which is where I've seen a lot of stellar shows. To the left is the Majestic Theater, where I've probably seen more shows, but couldn't get a good snap of that one.

Image
Some nice Detroit urban squalor for your viewing pleasure.

Image
An important man. He's got places to go and people to see.

Image
Hockeytown Cafe - right next to The Fox, and always thumping before and after games.

Image
Walking toward the park.

Image
Sitting down in my seat now. Beer - check. Peanuts - check. Let's do this.

Image
Gary Sheffield at bat, blowing nads as usual.

Image
Here's the view from our seats. They're actually not bad, all things considered. These are scalper tickets. All seats are sold out for EVERY home game, so I have no other choice but to roll up on scalpers and get the best seats I can for a reasonable price. Usually I get jammed with upper deckers along the 1st or 3rd base side, but these were pretty much right behind the plate, so I wasn't complaining.

Image

Image
Rumplewife in attendance, heading for her third hot-n-ready pizza.

Image

Image
Look toward the back, and above the brick wall. All those standing up make up a part of the "Standing Room Only" seats, which are the only tickets available for purchase at any given home game. Yyyyyeah, no thanks.

Image
Upper deck, to the right of us.

Image
To the left.

Image
I was about a half second too late on this shot. The scoreboard displayed the afternoon's attendance - about 42K, which was the 2nd highest attendance since Comerica Park opened.

Image
Screw_Michigan's favorite feature of the ballpark.

Of course the Tigers had to have a fucking merry-go-round and a Ferris Wheel installed when the park was built. Losing baseball wasn't enough to keep the butts in seats.

And next time make sure to make a stop by old Tiger Stadium to take some pics before they start tearing that bitch down.

Nice job. I plan on doing a minor league PET soon.

Are they really gonna tear down tiger stadium? Why? Seems like detwat ought to have thousands of other abandoned buildings they can raze to make room for uhhhh, ummmm, nothing really. Leave the place alone. Maybe use it as a homeless shelter. Or better yet, move the tigers back in. Maybe all the seats don't have perfect sight lines, but, I'll bet everyone atleast will have a seat rather than paying to stand on pavement 100 ft behind the left center wall. What did that old barn seat? 70K or so?

By the way, there was a chick dressed like this at the game:

Except with Tiger gear, and a considerably larger rack. I couldn't get into position for the shot. I was PISSED.

Doubt it. I'm guessing she just plopped atop the arm rests, letting her massive girth gradually cave inward until she was "seated." Getting out musta been a bitch, though. I'll bet she started that process around the 7th inning.

How much? In Philly, they have a similar setup though the standing room stretches around the entire stadium. For $5 I'll take a standing room seat with a table to rest my beer and food while I watch the game from behind home plate over nosebleeds anyday of the week.

I have no connections to Detroit whatsoever, but damn. Beautiful place to see a game. Thanks.

Detroit has some nice buildings downtown to piss on after you leave a game hammered. Other than that, it's slim pickings.
