Got up at 4:00 am this morning ...
to catch the flight at 7:45 from San Diego to Newburgh,
with a three hour layover in the ATL.
Crazy times!!!

Haven't been to ATL for a long
time...
but it's very cool. Here's what I saw there:

I can see why people love it so much.

I swear to God and GOD that I saw shutyomouth get on my plane in ATL.
This guy was about 6'1" and 350 lb, wearing a red
tank top with "shit happens" on the back.
White hair and salt and pepper goatee....
I didn't get his picture because
my camera was packed.
I almost went up to him and asked if he was
the famous spammer, but I chickened out.

Landed in Newburgh (what a great town!!)
at about 8:30 tonight. Drove
through a driving rainstorm to Albany.
I paid for a "premium" rental at Budget
but they were out so I got a Town Car for the sam
price. Should be great for all the driving
we'll be doing.

I love this place!!

Well, gotta crash now. We're gonna go for a visit to the HOF tomorrow
and see the museum before....
we go back on Sunday for the induction.

I was up at Lake Chautauqua two weekends ago. CNY is quite bountifully green this summer. The countryside is beautiful.

Lake Chautauqua definitely isn't in CNY, sayin'.

For that matter, neither is Albany, although it isn't that bad a drive to Cooperstown from Albany.

To most NYers anything north of the Tappan Zee Bridge is at least--- UPSTATE NY !

BTW-- from what I see by NOAA radar, Albany is getting mucho rain, but
Cooperstown loks clear. Should make for some nice photos at the HOF and the ceremony.

To those who live in NYC or Lawn Guyland (as it is pronounced down there), anything north of the Tappan Zee bridge is upstate.

That said, the upstate/downstate dividing line shifts dramatically north or south depending on what part of the state you're in. Around these parts, most people consider Albany downstate.

My take: both positions are equally ridiculous. Westchester County is 15 miles from midtown Manhattan; to consider it upstate is ludicrous. But by the same token, Albany is 120 miles or so north of NYC, so it should not be lumped in with downstate. The northern border of Westchester County should be the upstate/downstate dividing line.

Guess what Todd...if it weren't for "tourists" there wouldn't be any HOF. So, GFY on that account, OK?

If you don't like tourists you shouldn't live in an area that they frequent.

We never did go into the museum, BTW. We drove over to Cooperstown on Saturday for our dry run on Route 20 (not the thruway) and it was a beautiful drive. Route 80 south along the lake into town is classic. C'town was zoo even on Saturday and there was a huge line just to get into the museum. I'm gonna come back next year to see the museum. We had to walk about a mile and a half from the closest available parking to get into town. Could have taken a trolley bus but didn't want to wait in line, and the walk was nice anyway.

There were a bunch of retired baseball stars selling their autographs at tables on Main Street (or whatever the name of the main street is). I see nothing wrong with collecting autographs but I will never pay for one. I did get close enough to several to snap some good pics...Ozzie, Goose, Winfield and Jerry Coleman (the Pads' radio voice was sitting next to Winfield). So we walked around a bit and headed back to Albany.

Sunday was amazing. More about that later. We're packing up to head for Quebec right now. I may not be posting any more pictures until I get home. I prolly snapped about 200 of them yesterday but this old laptop is as slow as Luther's morning constitutional and since it's a Windows 98 machine there are no thumbnails in Windows Explorer. Try searching through a couple hundred pics on a slow machine, just by file name, and you'll get an idea of what I'm up against.

Are you going to quebec city? Nice place, despite being over run with frenchies. On your way back to the states take 201 through jackman, then hang a left and drive up to moosehead lake.

If you have time, drive out to acadia NP. It really is beautiful.
