Judgement Day for the NHL

The season has been toast for a while. Just cancel it already but keep talking. I want a deal by the middle of the summer.

That link is so yesterday's news!

Since that owner let loose with his tidbit of info, the sides had an 11 hour meeting yesterday, and are meeting as I type this. There have been reports that the union is willing to accept some of what the NHL is feeding them.

Perhaps a little optimistic, but I think this thing could be solved today.

On the other hand, if they don't, there won't be any settlement for at least a year from now. Goodenow likes to work with deadlines, and the next deadline will be the drop-dead date for next season. And really, that unidentified owner saying the season will be cancelled is likely a strategic move by the NHL to give Goodenow his deadline to force him to negotiate seriously.

A settlement this summer is extremely unlikely, IMO.
