As expected, not one dork here can play chess above novice level.

So, since no one plays a complicated, time consuming game with strangers online, it means they're not skilled at said game?

Yeah, buddy -- you have the intellectual capacity to play chess.

I have played chess, fukk, I dunno, maybe 20-30 games....in my life. Undoubtedly a novice. It certainly is an awesome game, but, it became apparent to me quickly that I wasn't particularly good at it and not really interested in seeing if I could become good.

And I will have you know that I have never once waxed my taint or any other body part. I'll leave that to goobs. I may have occasionally viewed porn though.

Too bad you haven't gotten past novice level at life (not capitalized).

Those two things don't typically go together. Just sayin'.

How many more games must you play to become a dominant force?

He could play a million more games and it isn't going to make him any less stupid.

My very limited exposure to chess has me thinking that some "get it" and some don't. By get it, I mean the ability to look moves ahead, in countless directions. You were either born with this talent or you weren't. How else do you explain 7 year old chess masters. Certainly, this innate skill can be honed, but it is highly dependent on the lump of clay you are dealt at birf.

Sounds like wags was born with a modest portion of "it" as was I. The difference between us is that I realized it and directed my energies in more productive directions like talking to anonymous fukkwits on the interwebs.

How long does a typical game take? If the average is 2 hours then it would take about 5,000 games.

Of course it helps if you're born with a certain amount or "it."

A typical game is hard to define in terms of duration, depends on the opponent skill level and how serious each player is about that particular game. A more meaningful measure would be how many moves are made by each player. I would estimate about 50-60 moves is a "typical" game among players with similar skill levels.

If you care about how long a game takes, don't both playing. When my eldest brother and I sit down for a game, clear the room of women and children. We're going to be 100% focused for the next 2 hours with piss breaks the only interruption.

When I wrote I was slightly above average, that was with a degree of modesty. No one who plays chess seriously brags about how good they may or may not be. Suffice to say there's a good chance I'd beat anybody here in less than 30 moves.

Looks to me like the gauntlet has been thrown.

Somebody needs to give wags a chess beatdown. Is there any way we can put it into a thread?

Wagering will not only be allowed, but encouraged.

Astute observation since that was obviously the intent.

I would welcome the challenge of playing a higher rated player, of which there are no doubt many... just not many here which is apparent by the responses gleaned thus far.
Is there any way we can put it into a thread?
Doubtful, but that would be quite interesting. Most likely would have to be arranged elsewhere and damned if I know of any decent chess rooms since Yahoo screwed the pooch. I've looked around a bit and they all suck. Most are playing against an automated program which isn't the least bit entertaining.

Again, my purpose in this thread (other than to bash Yahoo) was to see if any geeks here knew of a decent chess room. Apparently not.

I used to play a lot of chess when I worked at a gas station. I was back when I was in college. Would get kind of slow after 9 o'clock so this Puerto Rican guy who used to play speed chess the streets in the NYC would come over and he would set up a board and I would play him while tending the register. I got halfway decent for a while, then I went back to school and promptly forgot everything I knew and now I can barely beat level 1 on the Microsoft chess game.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. I don't wax my own taint, let alone somebody else's. That is a job for a professional, and the one I have is extremely good at it.

We are going to have a troll stop trivial pursuit game one of these days. I used to be really good at rattling trivial shit, but I doubt I could take Smackie, based on his demonstrated music knowledge. If he can pack away useless music info, he is likely pretty good at other stuff. Smackie, maybe you can work some trivial pursuit into toon town. Post questions on chat, first correct response gets the point. Just need to allow for horrible spelling.

Not at all Mgo. In fact, I would argue that your grammar was correct, in a manner that allowed you to encrypt a curious thinly veiled subliminal message. Whether it was intentional or unintentional need not concern you at this time.
