Actually you’re supposed to enroll three months before you turn 65. If you’re late you premiums go up. Permanently.

That still makes me old as motherfuckung shit.

I enrolled in Medicare A. I'm still working so I have excellent health insurance through my employer, but if I'm hospitalized and my HMO hits me with a significant deductible, Medicare A can pick that up. No premium whatsoever for Medicare, and my health insurance net cost is under $120 per year.

My employer currently pays 100% of the premiums for my health insurance plan, that has no deductible - just co-pays.

When I go on Medicare they will reimburse me for the full amount of premiums that they would have to pay if I stayed on the plan. Not sure how much that is, but pretty substantial. More than enough to cover basic Medicare and any supplemental coverage I decide to include.

I just turned 80. Have had Medicare since age 65 and I'm carrying AARP United Health Care with it. It has a $3600 yearly out of pocket maximum cap. That is all I paid for my heart surgery a couple years ago. Health insurance should be for major issues not things like regular check ups and such.

At 60, I will be tricare eligible and will go on it immediately. Once I get "mikey old" I believe I go to a system where medicare is the primary and tricare picks up the slack.

I will admit that I would take it over the fukking mess we have today. Obamacare had one goal. Kill our current fukked up system. It is close to reaching this goal.

Healthcare not only improves as you get older, it increases coverage. Our seniors are also completely covered for plastic surgery and pain killer addictions. They're doped to the gills and hot as fuck 8)

Best take in the tread, been my short experience with Medicare.
Worked for 49 years and still paid outta da ass for healthcare.
Example: had a freakin CT scan for a headache that refused to leave me alone. Was in the tunnel for 7 minutes...
Received a bill for $2998.00!
My then employee heath insurance, through the largest medical facility in the state, paid $1700.00.
My cost, 1300.00 bones..then the light bulb flashed, I became eligible for Medicare 3 days before the scan..which I expertly applied for 3 months before my 65th B day.
Hauled my ass to the hospital billing joint, threw my red white and blue card on the desk... wha la...the 1300 bucks will be put to good use!
People that earn the shit should be able to benefit from it when they get over the hill..I can’t imagine what I paid into Medicare for 49 years..I’ve always felt those that contribute the most, should have better cost savings when they need healthcare. Like Social Security benefits, healthcare costs should be based on personnel contributions.

I don't understand your aversion to this, everytime you buy something - no matter how small, you pay a penny. In exchange, you're looked after from cradle to grave. It's an insignificant thing but the most important. I think you measure a society on how you treat the weakest members.

I’m not without taking care of the less fortunate. I’d just like to know who they are.
My observation has been too many take advantage without culpability. Especially illegals and those making babies for financial support. Which will just exasperate the issue in the future, adding more non motivated expenses to the gen pop.
I guess I’d like to believe if you reach a plateau of contribution, you should be rewarded for your personal sacrifice. If you are not supporting the system, you should be encouraged to do so. Not encouraged to sit in front of Jerry Springer each day, before your trip to the food stamp handout. And a free ride to healthcare.

Not 'less fortunate' but rather, weakest. Morelike infants or the elderly or infirm. With a sales tax, it's unavoidable. it's something you have to pay into from which you'll unavoidably have to take out. You can't dodge it.

Healthcare belongs in a separate basket, rather than ordinary goods. It's not something you choose to buy, when you feel like it.

I guess I recognize sales tax largely as a local and federal expense targeted to infrastructural growth. You know, better roads, build a bridge, line a pocket.
Social Security contributions is its own animal.
I think we are in agreement with all that, I was making a point separately concerning SS benefits.
No one is “buying” them, one should be compelled to earn them.
